1979 CB650 rear bumper
« on: February 08, 2024, 11:36:30 am »
Any idea why my rear bumper has a cut straight thru it?  Almost looks like it was like this during production but not sure.

No cut on mine. Maybe after market for optional rack or sissy bar..

Looks like the weld has cracked at a seam.

Agree...is it cracked like that on both sides?  or just one?

There is no seam or Weld on my stock one. If you remove the bolt by the joint, does it come apart? It looks like the back piece is swedged to fit inside the front part, if that split is on both sides.

I don't think it is original that way.
Can you take it apart? Is there a barrel added inside the front section to slide the rear section onto? 🤔

Cracked simply from vibration and/or stress. I have seen it on crash bars, luggage racks, etc. when bike is tied down/held down on a trailer or truck for long periods.  I never use ratchet straps for that reason.
