Looking for Answers to Yoshimura Part Mystery
« on: February 20, 2024, 08:13:09 pm »
Building a cb750 after collecting parts for the past couple years.  I came across a Yoshi cam chain (still in the box) and a tensioner from a trustworthy source, being a sucker for vintage Yosh stuff I want to put it in my engine.  The question I have that I can't seem to answer from the old Yoshi catalogue is whether they sold more than one type of chain..let me explain.

The chain I pulled from the box is a 'peanut' link shape and has 219T stamped on the links along with D.I.D and Japan, the chain appears to be new but is very similar to the stock chain I pulled out of the motor when I took it apart.  Looking at the racing parts catalogue I can only find a part for what they refer to as 'gold' racing cam chain with links more similar to the 219FTH style in the picture.

The Yoshi chain box doesn't have a part number that matches the catalogue but could be sold later.

If the chain is from Yoshimura and is the OEM type has it been treated in anyway (heat or cryo treated)?

Any help is appreciated while I go deeper into this rabbit hole.

The heavy duty Yosh chains I have seen were flat link and made by RK.

That's interesting, do you know any details about it?

Sorry I don't. I just remember a guy in our shop bought a bunch of Yosh stuff, including that camchain, over the winter of 72. I think the full link plate chains  were available shortly after that.

Appreciate the tip, that lead me to a possible answer.  I'm taking both stock and Yosh cams to an expert to see in person, will post findings.

Yosh cams are easy to ID. I have the cam card that came with my Daytona cam should you need the numbers
As of today 3/13/2012 my original owner 75 CB750F has made it through 3 wives, er EX-wives. Free at last.  ;-)

If you can post the card that would be great!  I also have a Daytona cam I plan on using for my build.
