Exhaust Questions
« on: February 14, 2024, 08:46:49 AM »
CB750K6. I have stock exhausts. Each silencer / muffler has a bolt on the inside face, close to the end, next to the black annular end caps. What do these bolts do? Do they enable removal of the end caps?

If so, what is the affect of removing them, will it change the exhaust note and will that affect the carb jetting?

Yes….. those bolts hold in a short baffle. Removing it makes the bike surprisingly noisy. Careful though, if they are in bad shape, they can “crumble”. You can just see the shiny end of the bolt inside the baffle (photo is my k6). If the  bolt ends are really cruddy, they can destroy the threaded plate on the way out. Caution, or leave it alone.

#7 are the end caps.(not really a baffle) just the reducer of the outlet hole size.

Thank you. My silencers appear to be in good condition, so I'd hope there's no significant corrosion in there. When the weather picks up, I might try a run without them, just to see if I like the noise  :D

K6,,

If your pipes are original Honda OEM pipes, I would take them off. Clean and apply some type of cosmalene
type preservative and seal them up and store them..

It better to risk a 4 into 1 or aftermarket pipes versus the real McCoy’s. Honda’s in this case..

In my opinion nothing sounds as good as an open RC sidewinder with spot on synced carbs..There is no sneaking home though… And there’s nothing better than calling the cops except a CBX with an open header…😇

Even with heavy boots your foot will still get to hot if you’re trying to sneak in farther than a block…

A Yoshimura 4 into 1 is a close second to the RC and you can turn to the right too..😁

I prefer my original pipes. I make sure my rides are long enough to get them hot and dry, and keep the bottom drain holes clear. Once a year they get a really good clean and polish. The pipes on my K6 are almost 50 years old and still looking good.
