If you had to guess at its power rating, what would you guess?  90HP?

Hey Art, think how much money I could make if I could forcast dyno figures  ;D ;D ;D ;D Sam the human dyno ::) ::) ::)

I couldn't let you know to much yesterday as I didn't have my reading specs with me and was having to guess what keys I was pressing. ;D ;D

The Bike fired up OK but was only on 3 cylinders, we changed #3 plug and all was well.

We only had about 250 yards to run on and the idea was to get some miles on the new motor before going to the dyno.

Chris had other ideas and was more concerned about what he would have to contend with in respect of the extra power on take off.

On his first take off, he eased it off the mark with 5000 revs on the clock and carefull release of the clutch, it took off prety fast and it looked quite quick to me compaired to one off his full bore starts with the old motor.

On his second start, he upped it to 6000, but as the clutch went fully home the front end was about a foot in the air ;D ;D ;D ;D.

Allthough it scared him, on his third run he upped it to 7000 and was slipping the clutch more,...even with the clutch being slipped the front was hovering about 2 inches above the ground the full length of first and stayed up for most of second :o :o :o :o :o

The short road we were running on had a round-a-bout at the far end and coming out of it on his last run he gave it half throtle with the clutch fully home,....before he could hit second the revcounter was showing 11000 rpm  :o :o :o :o ...hope he didn't do it any damage, only having stock rods.

There should be some static pics and a bit of video footage of the first time it fired up a few weeks ago, I sent it to SteveD as I cant load it on the works computer (even if I could,..I wouldn't know how :D :D :D )
Pitty we didn't have the video camera with us yesterday >:( >:( >:(.

No Mike, the stock old motor would never have reved beyond 9500.

The ignition system is Boyer Bransden.

Sam, I went the Dyna 2000 route because it includes a dial controlled rev limiter. Yousimply turn the dial where you want it to come in and it works perfectly.

I priced the Dyna S and it was cheaper, but the rev limiter was an extra piece and $129/139 - something like that. I really like the 2000 because it features a built-in timing light, has a shift-interupter, and timing retard control (programmable) for supercharging and nitrous. It's hard to imagine an application where it would not be appropiate. Yes, I'd buy it all over again - that good and that easy.

Regards,
Gordon

Thanks Gordon, it sounds a nice bit of kit but we allready have a good ignition system.
It was just a slip up on Chrises part not knowing that the motor would pick up so quick with such a small amount of throttle.
A stand alone unit like Mike mentioned, might do the trick.
Another idea incase you miss a gear is, fit a kill button for the gear changes.

I have a collection of movies of Chris warming up the bike and Sam trying desperately to use a strobe timing light in bright sunshine!

When I've figured out how to make a decent length movie out of it I'll post the link.

Thanks for the CD Sam. Won't take too long.

Art, the head was ported for drag racing (all out power) and was flowed all the way from the carbs (31CRs).
Mike supplyed a set of 5mm stemmed Kibblewhite stainless steel valves (2mm larger on the inlets)
The guides, valve seats and valves were all mated up on a Serdi machine.
The camshaft is a 125-65 megacycle with Falicon adjustable sprocket.
HD cam chain with M3 tensioner, again from Mike.
Pistons are 836 Wiseco on stock rods.
The crank was lightened and ballanced and has had the generator end removed and blanked off.
All new gaskets, seals and bearings throughout.
Starter and kick starter removed.
Runs on Shell V power and uses Shell Advance none synthetic oil.
Sparks come from a battery via a Boyer Bransden ignition system and terminate at the ends of Denso iridium plugs.

Sam. ;)

Hope ya on the mend. ;)

Welcome to the forum Sweep.

If you want to try starting it with a push, you are welcome to come and try. ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

We start it on a set of rollers, one end under the drive wheel of the van with the bikes rear wheel on the other end.

We are hopeing to get some video footage up soon of the bikes first fire up a few weeks ago, check this thread over the next few days.
