I was researching the value of replacing the rear wheel dampers in my bike ('82 CB650). At $17 each they're not a financial burden and might just replace them for peace of mind.

But in researching, I learned that there are also rubber dampers in the clutch basket. The problem is that they were never deemed replaceable by Honda, and are therefore not available. Supposedly they're the same for the CB500/550/650 maybe, but I have yet to find a source.

So I want to know if it'd be worth even looking into this further, and if so, where can they be sourced?

Resurch this on the UK forum, there is somebody making these as a kit to fit BUT there are two different sorts.
Does the 650 have the dampers in the primary hub like the 500/550/400?

That's the question. I've seen references to the 500, 550, and 650 clutch dampers being the same but don't have anything to really back it up. I also have not seen write-ups or videos of any of these 3 bikes' clutch baskets getting disassembled.

I'll dig deeper and see what I can find. I can't be the first person to have this on my mind.

I realized that I have a spare clutch basket from when I replaced the motor in my bike. Just went out and dug it out, and it definitely has some play between the gear and the basket. I think since I already have the spare, I might drill out the rivets and disassemble the whole thing to see what these dampers look like.

I've replaced them on other rivet baskets where you do not split the crankcase, seems a good idea if they are pooched.

Alright, so I went and grabbed that spare clutch basket and went to town drilling out the rivets.

Lo and behold, the dampers are hard as nails and look exactly like the ones that folks sell for the first generation DOHC CBX, CB900, and CB750 bikes. I'm going to bite the bullet and get a set from this KM Carburetor site.

Will report back in a few weeks when it all arrives and I've got the clutch basket back together.
