Lithium ion Battery in a 1975 CB750 ?
« on: February 29, 2024, 10:26:44 AM »
What would happen if I ran a Lithium ion battery in my CB with the original electrical setup. I'm looking at a 12.V 20Ah Lithium ion battery.

Check the output of the charging system is in the correct range for the battery. Need a different battery tender, that can maintain them.

The charging system is far too crude for a lithium battery

Thanks Bryan, that's what I was thinking. Think I'll just stay with the old liquid acid battery.

Having read a lot about the charging system required where lion batteries are frequently used the voltage control of the standard Honda regulator is outside the specs required as it only has 3 settings, off, flat out and approx half charge

The voltage spikes the old system brings, won't help much either, I'm afraid.

It does seem likely that a lithium battery would work, at least for awhile. The old charging system might cause early failure of the battery, not sure. What would be cool is if someone set up a "minder" brain between the battery and the + terminal to monitor charging and intervene if needed.
