Turn signals not flashing
« on: March 25, 2024, 12:31:01 PM »
1976 Honda CB550K

Just got a battery today so I started testing electrics.

All lights work, however, the signal lights will not flash.  Took off the front covers and noticed the left side does not appear to have a ground near the bulb.

Is this needed to get flash?

Pics of left and right below.  The left has been replaced at some point because it has different color wires going into the bucket.

Going to run out to an auto parts store and retrieve a new flasher as well.

If niether the left or right side flashes(they just light up and stay on). It is most likely the flasher relay.

OR the battery voltage is a bit low and it needs the engine running.
They ground via the stem, holding nut ,ear and nut with ground wire inside headlamp shell.

REMEMBER US models have a twin filament front bulb with the 5 watt being a running light

Den….. those sockets are grounded to the housing with the small braided wire under the small screws. The two wires should be light blue and light blue with a white band on one side, the other is orange and orange with a white band. The band is for the lower wattage running light. The solids run the brighter signals.

Because the stalks and lamps are mounted in rubber (on the fork tubes) they must be grounded in the headlamp housing. The nuts on the fork ears have a tab to attach a green ground wire.

I had a similar problem on my CB500.  Cleaned up the terminals at the flasher and replaced the flasher and they are fine now.
