1975 CB550 tank moulding
« on: March 10, 2024, 05:30:29 PM »
Does anyone know where I can get the oem tank moulding pieces? I ordered "cb550 tank moulding" from ebay and it came as one piece. Just for #$%*s, I ordered the oem clips too to see if I could cut sections and add the clips to make it look more original, but I'm not sure it's gonna work...im attaching pics of the tank (before and after)

Over ten years of checking ebay I have only ever seen one of the four moulding pieces needed - and it was very expensive!
I think if you used original retaining clips and chrome trim joining pieces with an aftermarket chrome strip you would get a lump in the strip every place where it has a retaining clip under it?

I got one-piece chrome moulding strips from Space Age Paint in Mesa, AZ. Worked for both seat trim and tank. The door moulding at auto parts stores will work as well but they're usually two pieces of around 2.5'.

Italian Mold Lab manufacture and sell 5 piece replica trim and it comes with all the clips etc. Very good quality. But, as with anything worth having it isn't cheap. Find them on Facebook.

Forget about the clips and get an RV shop to sell you a piece of door protective molding. It's identical in width to the original. The car moldings are a lot thinner.

I think 100 euro for the full set it a great deal. Thanks for sharing.
