1975 CB550 Restoration
« on: March 10, 2024, 05:48:06 PM »
Finally far enough to start this thread. But I've procrastinated because I have like 300 pics and it won't let me post more than like 5 at a time. I'll do it in sections. HERE'S MY GOOD FRIEND BRUCE DOING THE PAINT FOR ME ON THE TANK AND SIDE COVERS

Looks outstanding...

He charged me 600 for the whole thing, the 2 tone and the striping, albeit I had to provide the paint (candy jade green from VMR) and the striping kit (ordered from a seller on ebay who hand makes them), but he provided the black, primer, clear coat, etc. I also provided the helmet decal. I'll be putting the Honda and 550F emblems on when I get them back tomorrow.

That's quite a nice paint job and quite a bargain.
Wish I had a painter friend!

In this day and age, that's a more than reasonable amount, painting ain't what it used to be, it's become a pricey proposition whether or not your in the know or not.

I told you the green would be stunning.

(Almost) finished product.

For assembly, I replaced the pins which require a punch to install with ones that take C clips. I used an angled razor blade to cut the paint out of the emblem mounting holes, use a brass punch to insert the clips, push the honda emblem on using rtv silicone, and wrap a towel around a hammer to shape it to the tank after its in.
