I'm wondering if anyone here may have experience with these. I bought an '05 XT225 for my girlfriend due mainly due to the seat height. I also had had one as a teenager and liked it. Recently it was stolen and we got it back about 36 hours later. Luckily the damage seemed to be mostly cosmetic. When I got my hands on it the only thing that was immediately obviously tampered with was the ignition. I also noticed one of the two 30a fuses was blown and the gel battery was low. The wiring was all intact and didn't look tampered with (you can tell when a wire/connection is dirty and someone touches it, it becomes cleaner). The bike was running great beforehand, so I figured it will start right up again.
I got a new ignition and installed it, and all the electrical components seem to be working. Horn, lights, starter, etc. It wouldn't start though, so I checked the plug and it was fouled. Ok, new plug and trim and reseat the spark plug cap. Still nothing. At best you will get a little "chug chug" after trying with choke for a long time. Similar to when a bike is out of gas and it'll barely start. Well the plug wasn't overly wet or fragrant with gas so I rebuilt the carb. Everything inside was nice and clean. I did replace the fuel enrichment "choke" plastic housing and diaphragm with a new genuine part. Unfortunately I still haven't been able to start it.
The plug is sparking brightly when grounded on the outside of the engine, however it will only spark the first 0.5 seconds while running the starter, then the spark goes away or becomes too weak to see it. I think the problem may be electrical, since there was the blown fuse and dead battery, maybe the crackheads shorted something very bad and melted it. There are two black boxes, one a flasher relay and the other a CDI. The flashers are still working just like everything else.
I'm wondering if a component such as the CDI or a part of the stator could be damaged from someone repeatedly making shorts and trying to start it by any means necessary. The only wires that were tampered with were the ignition wires, which are replaced.
