1973 CB500 Center Stand Compatibility?
« on: March 14, 2024, 05:39:49 AM »
The '73 CB500 I brought home recently needs a center stand, the old one's foot lever crumbled when I tried to get the bike up on it. Short of someone on here having one they would part with, are there any other CB center stands that are compatible? I haven't cross-referenced the part number yet, but there's a bunch of CB500T/CB360T center stands on Ebay and Picclick, and given Honda's penchant for parts-specific parts, would those fit or do I have to keep on searching?

I think most any 550k up to model year ‘77 would also fit. The F model 550 likely would not as there re subtle differences in the frame, but in nearly any case some very minor mods would probably get you a fit.

I doubt the T models will fit as they are likely too narrow.

Up to 1976 CB550K use the same part number centerstand.  They changed in 1977.

The 550F supersport stand is the same as the 500/550K up to '76. The 77/78 K model is different needing a different height stopper, but is a better stand leverage wise. I would think the 77/78 F would have the same as earlier F/K models but I don't have one to compare,

Think that the 550F stand will fit ok if you have a 4/1 pipe. But is not suitable for the 4/4 pipes. The foot lever at the side looks the only difference and actually better for getting it on the stand.

that is correct. i have a 550F where i fitted some (non-honda) 4-4 pipes. had to bend the center stand lever to fit around them without hitting.
it's doable, but won't fit out of the box.

It actually has some 2-into-1 pipes on it now, but I don't know if I'll be able to salvage them, they're pretty rusty. Still whole, not rusted through anywhere that I can see, but I've been eyeing those Dekelvic 4-into-1's anyway. They're 'affordable' and look pretty good. Here's a reference pic of the rusty pipes:

Here's a pic of the beautiful points, and a closer look at the pipes, you can see what I mean. I wonder if it would be cheaper to just get them re-chromed, if that's possible. I don't know. I kind of like those 2-into-1's.

My F stand is identical to my 500K stand, but my F is put together from parts so I guess the 550F stand that I bought may actually be a 500K one. I apologise for the possible misinformation.

The model code number and the modification designation are different:
 550F is part# 50500-390-300
 500K is part# 50500-323-000B
The function & component number is the same though...
