Any 2 digit number on chart added together then subtracted always ends up w/ a number with the SAME symbol on the chart. Try any pair of 2 digit numbers, subtract them and both answers always give the same symbol.
It was bewildering for a minute...thought something occult was happening or something!

The number calculation ( eg. 23 - (2+3) = 18 ) produces only 9 different results (all multiples of 9) - 9, 18, 27, 36, 45, 54, 63, 72 and 81. Each of those numbers share the same symbol on the lookup table so you've only really got one choice of symbol! That symbol changes every time you play so you never catch on.

Or maybe it *IS* psychic!!!

......looke again and you are right, suits changed, but you start with 6 and end up with 5 you didn't choose.

O.K., I admit it, I can be dense sometimes. I finally had to take pen and paper to figure it out, DUH, major dain bramage here, now that I see what you were talking about I feel so dumb.
