75 550K tank trim
« on: March 18, 2024, 08:09:33 PM »
Anyone know a good replacement for the tank trim for a 75 550k?  It appears to be hard to find for me. Mine is loose so i pinched it to see if it would help to seat back in place and .. it just cracked making it worse. I can get crafty to keep it in place but I really would like to replace it. Thanks for some pointers in the right drection.

So, the strategy is to lie to people you are asking for help?

I think I'll be busy going for a ride.

Good luck!

Semi Geriatric ex-Honda mechanic and MOT tester (UK version of annual inspection). Garage full of "projects" mostly 500/4 from pre 73 (no road tax in UK).

I used some flexible chrome auto door trim I got at the parts store. It's self-adhesive and comes in a roll.
Turned out ok. Sorry I don't have a better photo.

+1 With the auto trim it is easiest to find. Not likely as accurate as the Italian reproduction item though. The auto trim is easy to install and is a reasonable facsimile of the original trim.
Common sense.....isn't so common!

Canadian Tire has a few styles. The one I like is a “U” channel and fairly small. The bottom of the channel has a stream of adhesive that’s slightly skinned over. When you press it in place it pops, releasing the small amount of glue. I warm them up before pressing into place and tape them down for a few days. I’ve used it of my cb750 K7 and K8 and it looks original and never come off.

Not sure how it will curve around the neck part, maybe really warm it up first?

It is tough to get it to stick around the top edge of the tank, it's a pretty tight bend.
Heating it a bit is probably a good idea, I didn't do that.
Bang-for-buck however I thought it came out pretty good.

Space Age Paint in Mesa, AZ, has flexible trim that can be bought in whatever length you want. I've used that for both tank and seat trim.
