Topic: Side Cover Removal

I have had this machine apart at different spots and finally hit a roadblock. I need to check my fusebox, but the left side cover just won't come off. I admit that I am terrified of breaking it (it's original and looks great, where the other one I bought used and have not gotten it painted or badged yet). I tried heating grommets with a hair dryer and nothing. It litterally feels bolted on!? I have a suspicion some lubricants might break down the fiberglass and cause damage. It is cold here so I may repeat the process when it gets warmer... just patience isn't my favorite trait.

Definitely lube it up, and push from the back if you can.

Oil or wd40, replace the gromets.

If you have new rubber coming you can try and cut the rubber on the old ones.  if you can't cut then try grease from the back side and use some solvent to thin the grease so it will flow into the plastic/rubber union.  The trick is to warm the rubber and go slowly and gently.

I lubricate my CB750 K2, K6 grommets with silicone grease.
If a cover is hard ro remove I have used a flat thin screwdriver to wiggle close to the plastic pin.

But my covers are rather fresh, Yamiya covers from 2013 and 2018.

Must be safest way to not crack the cover.

I use dielectric grease on the rubbers. Push from the back directly on the tab that goes through the rubber. You can usually reach your fingers around the side of the cover to push on the tabs. Heat would help. If you have the new rubbers, you can always cut the rubbers off.
