Gauge rebuild done
« on: March 25, 2024, 05:29:27 PM »
Just have to post this because I took massive amounts of psychic damage during the rebuilding process. I did a good job of taking off the old crimp rings but them marred them up badly when trying to reinstall using pliers and electrical tape, as is sometimes recommended here. Bought new rings from Yamiya but these were a little too large and left a gap around the edges. These were installed using a brass drift, and a piece of 4" plumbing material (rubber with a metal compression band thing) that almost worked! Finally got rings and new bezels from CB750faces.com and used a special jig that a friend made for me, using a screwdriver to bend the band back into place. The backs are the originals, rechromed at a local shop.

0/10 most painful process.

But they look nice!

Finished, and bonus pic: the rubber plumbing thing that almost worked for putting the rings back on.

Good Job on the Gauges.. They look incredible!

That is how I do it with a screwdriver.. Not a good idea to pound with a drift and hammer.. Its a delicate instrument . And if the needle falls off you are back to square one.

I didn’t want to tackle that job, had Marcel do it. I didn’t think I could get it done properly.
Great job!

Thanks all! Before I started I saw the rebuild prices at about $700 and I thought, wow, I can do that myself for cheaper. Having gone through the pain of doing it myself, I now feel qualified to rebuild gauges for others. So consider this my official notice of being a gauge rebuilder for hire.

For the low, low price of seven thousand dollars.
