Has anyone found a REALLY, ACTUALLY bright LED, with wide-angle illumination, to replace the #1034 or #1157 taillight bulb?

I have 6 versions of them, but they are now more than 5 years old. NONE of them will light the sides of the taillight lens, and you must be directly behind the bike to see it. That's not good enough for me. CREE makes most of the world's high-output LED bulbs in their various forms (using an American patent, but made in China by some billionaire or 'nuther).

What have y'all found lately?

LED bulbs have improved significantly in the last few years. I am considering making a switch in the K3.
I recently converted all my bulbs except the gauges in my 96 Acty Attack to LED and they work great. The only problem is the headlight lenses are right hand drive and they have a goofy pattern for us here. I added very low LED's under the bumper to help with deer spotting.
I also recently changed my 2018 Colorado and my 2021 Wrangler to LED headlights. What I used is from LASFIT and they work great, no flicker, great pattern and cutoff and lots of light. I'm not getting flashed so the pattern works well.
Time to look at the K3 and convert. Save every little watt. My gauges are already LED from Yamiya.

Safety now is a priority for me when I ride these days. I bought a Brake free light and it mounts to the back of your helmet.  The light is right at the driver's view when following in a vehicle. It pulsates when down shifting and flashes bright when you come to a stop.  It may not fit all helmets. they're working on different mounts to address this.  I notice cars stopping further behind me so I know it gets their attention.  We can modify our existing tail lights or upgrade the bulbs, the fact is they're still sitting low on the fenders where drivers may not see them.   I am NOT endorsed by any group just posting a link.  I ride a '74 Flake Sunrise Orange stocker with just 35K miles, this bike turns my crank in many ways, be safe and well

Curious if others have tried this too. The ST-2 brake light controller I bought was absolute junk and did not work. When I complained repeatedly, they sent me another one and it didn’t work either. This helmet unit is an excellent idea and well positioned. May have to try it.

Simply another target for the cagers on the back of your head, or it will simply confuse them. Also a good item for finding a head in a ditch after a cager encounter during the dark night. A real multi-functional unit lol, but I think it needs one more feature though, when the rider has no pulse it should light solid blue like his oxygen depleted blood color.

On a side note, every time each one of us go for a ride, we are the target.  That's something out or our control and the known risk we take as riders.  If we can improve our visibility when riding, we just might increase our time on the saddle. Ride Safe

Higher located tail light must be an upgrade when riding on crowded roads where all kinds of vehicles drive close to each other.

I have driven cars on US highways. Mostly during very low traffic very late night or very early in the morning, from or to airports guided by a GPS.
Sometimes 4 lanes where slower traffic can just show up in middle lane, huge trucks passing on each side.

I would not ride a bike on those roads in heavy traffic. More large vehicles there than here.

I have ridden my K6 on German Autobahn, Austrian highways, alp roads, Italian highways, French Highways and Spanish Autopista in high speeds.
Smaller coastal/older roads from before the newer highways. Daylight, evenings and late when dark. 
4 holidays with 5000-6000km each time in the 80's.
Headlight on at daytime was not mandatory there as we had here.

None of those with similar chaos as on US highways with several lanes to each direction.
Faster vehicles on left lanes fastest most left and slowest most right.

I know that is the law in the USA too, but the reality was different the few times I have driven there between 2001 and 2017.

Northern Jugoslavia 1984 on narrow mountain roads where suicidal car drivers passed others in sharp corners with no sight, using the horn or not stopping at stop signs in smaller Italian cities when none did that was another kind of danger a good tail light could not help me.

Yellow headlight will stick out and be seen.
If driving on misty roads, a must with better visibility for the driver too.
A friend has a yellow glass in his H4 reflector unit on his CB750. Very yellow, when parked too.

The #1034 was the 1960's version of what became the #1157 [taillight + brakelight] bulb. It uses about 25% less power than the #1157, and became a go-to in the Chicago area in the 1970s  for customers who suffered chronic low-battery problems in the CB500/550 in particular. It's not quite as bright, but works. A modern LED would be much better, if brighter AND has the side-illumination capability of the normal light bulb. Those units from Britain look real good, might try those?

Thanks to both of you: I'm going to try some of those. They look very interesting! I have had 2 close encounters from the side recently, mostly because the drivers are looking at their #@$ing cellphones instead of the road, and this reminded me that I want to add some more rear lights (with sidelight capability) to my steed in case I get caught in the dark.

I want to look into that more-yellow headlight, too, Delta: I know EXACTLY what you are speaking of regarding visibility versus attention. Even I notice the yellowish headlights faster than I recognize the blueish white LEDs. I've long thought this might be from lifelong 'training' during my [now] 1.72 million total miles driven so far, but I am beginning to think that the yellow color triggers something in the brain because it is different from daylight, causing more attention (in me) to those than to the LEDs. It's interesting, but I'm not an authority on it: it's [maybe] just me?

Yes the yellow intense LEDs do get your attention further away that white LEDs do.
Last fall while out riding my goldwing, rounding a corner into a 1/2 mile straightway, at the far end were 2 bikes, the forward one was blocking my view of the second bike except for the wicked bright yellow driving lights. As I got closer I could see there were actually 2 bikes. The brain does pick out the yellow lights faster and more complete.

The #LD12ST taillight bulb is what I'm going to try first.

After that I might try [whatever he has for] replacing the H4 55w/60w halogen bulb in the headlight on, especially, the 550 I am using for the book. This is too much current for the 550 alternator, forcing its owner to use a trickle-charger as his standard 'park with charge' when he rides it to work in city traffic. Historically it has needed to be charged every Sunday night to be used in a week of city commuting with the lights on, as per Colorado law. I last installed a 40w/45w H4 bulb, but it's not enough to significantly improve the in-city situation. Delta's experiences are better mostly due to not being forced to ride with the lights on where he lives, and he has no troubles with the 500/550 charging system. When the CB500 first appeared the US also didn't have the Federal DOT law requiring 'lights on' for all bikes: this happened in 1972. While it got struck down (in 1994, I think it was?) to become a by-State law, most States still require it, and the bikes made after 1973 don't let you turn the lights off, anyway.

I had to investigate LED H4 with the yellow light.

First search when I installed  bright white LED H4 on my K6. Found a thread on this forum where I had posted photos. January 2015!

The traffic situation has changed since then.
Today are bright LEDs more or less standard so a single bright white LED will not be that eye catching as back then, 9 years ago.

Thanks to this thread I had to order.
I think I found a good combo, yellow LO, white HI.

I think I found a good combo, yellow LO, white HI.
2 pack, 36W each.

Edit:
It is ca:15mm taller inside bucket than the LED H4 I have today.
But 6mm slimmer rear diameter.

So hopefully no fitness issues.
All wires in bucket need to be taped in place making space for the bulb rear part.

My Marchal light has the euro style parking bulb too. I'm going to try and find a yellow led to fit that location, it's always on.

Be careful about what LEDs you buy. LEDs are output rated in Lumens as well as watts. If a site doesn't show lumens rating,  stay away. The higher the lumens rating the better light you will get.

Fan cooling on headlights are the weak point. When the fan dies, so goes the light. Radiation cooling is new newer, better technology and lasts longer. I highly suggest getting SoCal Motosports H4 headlight bulbs. I have them in my goldwing for 5 years of long distance riding, @ 75,000 miles.

New CB750 K6 Anteres Red, to replace the totaled K5, I sold this K6 at 45k in 1983, I had heavily modified it, many great memories on it and have missed it greatly.....
