Just installed my rebuilt speedo and tach from CBMTRS.COM. Love them, will be sending another set soon.

They had quoted 4-6 weeks from the time they receive them, it was 11 weeks total. That was the only real hiccup, the rest were little things that was more related to my lack of experience of shipping overseas.

Thanks for sharing this, I have bookmarked the CBMTRS site and will be very keen to hear how they go with your second set.

Do these now perform like new? Did the mounting threads and base plate get re-zinc plated? Was the cost reasonable or more than you expected?

Curious….. why didn’t you try Randy’s Cycles Service and Restoration in VA.? I’m tempted to give him a try. Anyone used his services in the past?

Jonda500-

They preform perfect, very smooth needle movement. They did not replate the bases. Patrick from CBMTRS gave me a quote from the pictures I sent him and the final cost was accurate to the quote. Shipping, Import taxes and rebuild totaled a little over $600 on these, but it will vary depending on what you are starting with.

BenelliSEI,

I had already shipped these off by the time I learned of Randy's. I could not find any US service that had the correct green tint faces, all were using black.

Is the high beam repeater jewel meant to be red? It’s more common for that to be blue so it doesn’t dazzle the rider when it’s lit, which tbh means it’s bloody dark and you need the extra light of the high beam so the distraction of having a bright red light in your visor is something to avoid if at all possible.

Saying that, I have very little knowledge of the early 750s as they just didn’t interest me, so maybe Honda fitted it with a red jewel in the first place, if so they clearly learned the above point and changed it to blue when the idiot panels started to appear instead of the lights in the clocks.

We have a member on the UK site who does the same work as CBMTRS but he does a better job in my experience, the bases are zinc plated, the dishes are freshly painted, he even refills the damper pot with special oil to stop needle bounce, the finish is as good as yours but he charges much much less, around £150 iirc, he even zeroed my mileage for me as I wanted the mileage at zero so I’d know how many miles it has done since the restoration.

Yes red on the high beam. I have a K1 set I picked up in January.

TideWater thanks for the info! The face plates look exactly the right color!
All I really care about is that the gauges are mechanically restored to function like new and that I get honest clear timely communication with the vendor. I will have to shoot Patrick an email when I have some money saved up - after wasting over $1000 trying multiple times to get Marcel(cb750faces) to fix my gauges, $600 sounds very reasonable assuming Patrick can do early cb500 ones properly.

I really wish somebody made 69-72 repop speedo and tach. I have heard some of the repop do not live long. I want to retain my unicorn triple tree but would not be ashamed to run repops for everyday use. The Yamiya speedo is JP only and $1300usd gulp. Their tach is $1100ish and again JP only.

BenelliSEI,

They do look correct to me as well. Shipping, VAT, Duties and fees does add a considerable amount to the overseas option. Send CBMTRS some pics and Patrick will give you a quote. He was also working on a not having to charge some of the import $$ with his county if he registers with them a certain way.

I would like to know about Randy's work as well.

I did get a quote from CBMTR. The basic service is US$630 for a pair of K1 instruments. Checking Randy’s detailed website, his price is U$538. He’s not far away from me so postage would certainly be much more favourable. I did use Marcel and cb750Faces for my Sandcast and have to say I was pleased with the results. Since that is no longer an option, I’ll probably give Randy a try in the near future and report back. Thanks for all the great info

...if I saw it right Marcel is selling the K0 gauge set for 850€, its on sale right now with 30% off.
And at his page I found a link to www.tachowerk.de with the note that tachowerk is doing the restaurations now.

You are correct…… missing external trim parts and wiring.

“This professionally restored set Honda CB750 K0 gauges miles speedo and tacho meters is a MUST HAVE for your precious Honda CB750 K0 Sandcast or diecast motorcycle. The gauges are professionally restored with high quality reproduction parts. Also the internal components are as new and lubricated. The dampers has refilled. The needle is stable and doesn't bounce. These gauges works and looks as new. The set will be supplied without wire looms and rubber mounting rings and without chrome back covers. These are still available elsewhere”

Why not try Peter Horton off the UK forum?

He does almost all the gauge restorations for the UK members and his work is top notch, lots of recommendations.
