CL175 engine overhaul

Goin back to 1969 to build a spare CL175 engine and the search brought me here

Specifically, i have questions relating to the transmissions and electeonic ignition update.

i've been told the CL was a 4 speed gearbox.  However, the ebay offerings are mostly 5 speed.  Can the transmissions be swapped?

And if there is a recommendation on a timing module for these.  Please let me know

Is it a sloper (stressed member like the CB/CL160)? Those were definitely 5-speed as people swap the 160's 4-speed for the 175's 5-speed. The sloper was 1968 only but some were titled 1969. They have some unique parts, including exhaust, that won't fit the regular 175s.

If it's a K3 (69~70) model it's a five speed.

Thankfully its an upright.

While i was looking through ebay - a buddy remembered they had a basket case with a good crank.
With a proper serial to boot.

Now to hunt down a servicable head and cylinders.

My SL175 and my dad's CB175 were definitely 5-speeds. I know there are engine differences between the models, such as electric start on my dad's CB175 but not on my SL. But not sharing the basic gearbox design would be odd to me.
