Petcock - I feel crazy
« on: April 12, 2024, 01:23:13 PM »
Here's the situation. My bike is a 72 cb500f, but the tank is from a 74 cb200t. There are two brass fittings where I assume TWO hoses connect, one for each set (2 each) of carbs....right? There isn't a fitting for some separate reserve, is there?

My ex is telling me I have to use a single hose, then use a "T" to split that into the two hoses (one for each set of carbs) and then the second fitting is supposed to have a separate hose that goes for some reserve that I am unaware of.

Can anyone confirm for me how I'm supposed to get the fuel to the carbs? I don't think I need a "T", I think the reserve setting on the switch is just to open up that small hole (see photo) so it can pull the gas from the lower part of the tank. There is no second reserve tank I know of but I could certainly be wrong. Thank you!!

NOPE to the ex

The reserve is the long brass pipe sticking upwards, both outlets feed main or reserve at diferent tap positions, one outlet goes to 1&2 carbs the other to 3&4

The main fuel inlet is the brass tube. The reserve inlet is the hole beside the brass tube. The fittings on the bottom are both outlets. On the CB200T one fitting went to one carb, and the other went to the other carb. On your four cylinder setup, you would run one fitting to carbs one and two, and the other fitting to carbs three and four.

EXACTLY what I told him hahaha! I think he's getting it confused because the tank we used to take it for a ride a couple of years ago I'm 99% sure only had one external nipple, and I think that's why he and his dad ran one hose to a "T" to make up for that. I think with my regular petcock the single hose and the "T" need to go away and I plug the two hoses onto the two external nipples.

But, now you see one reason he's my ex lmao 🤣

The case of the missing reserve tank has been re-appearing for years. No one has found it yet, L0L! One member was even told he had to flush the fuel out of the reserve tank because it would go bad after a while.
The hose deal is compounded by some carbs having one fuel inlet, some carb sets having two, and the same can be said for the petcocks which also moved from side to side.

Thanks everyone. He tried to still convince me he and his dad wouldn't have used a "T", so I had to send a photo of the bike WITH the temporary tank they put on...showing one nipple/hose coming from the petcock to a "T" then to the two hoses that go to the carbs. I told him I don't know why he's still trying to die on that hill but it didn't come stock with a "T" fitting and I CERTAINLY didn't install one myself LOL.
