Absolutely gorgeous bike that is beyond showroom condition but man o man what an ending price.
The seller made some money but not if you count all their time or if they paid others to do it...
To restore one to this level you gotta have a super nice example if it is going to keep most of the original parts. That was not claimed to be the case but still! Wow!
I won't spoil the ending for you.

I know a guy here in Melbourne who has maybe a dozen original Z1’s in showroom condition, including several very early’72 built ones. He’s sitting on a fortune. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

Yes mate, even as a non runner it’s probably worth way more than it’s cost you so far, and once finished it’ll be worth a small fortune. ;D

Always wondered why the auctioneer can't speak normally. The European auctioners speak normally with a slow, consistent pace.

Aesthetically the Z1 has nothing on the cb750.

That must be why it sold for so much money. 8)

Ok, I’ve been avoiding the project as other stuff has occupied my time. I changed the oil pump and put the engine in the frame, I’ll need to complete the other stuff (carbs, exhaust, etc.) and start it. I’ll admit, I’m concerned but hoping for the best. If all is well I’ll ride it some and decide what to do. If the problem persists I’ll have to sell it as is, I’m out of ideas if it still has the oiling problem.
It’s a beautiful bike, original tank that was repaired by a master. Repop exhaust, new fenders and quite a bit of other stuff. I have the old seat pan, fenders, etc.
I hope it runs otherwise it will be a sad end to a fun project for me.

Put it together and fire it up Steve, you’ve put way more effort into your Z1 than I did and mine runs fine, although I do need to pull the head and trim one valve stem as I can’t get enough clearance even with the thinnest shim available. Tight clearances aren’t good with big cams. ;D
