Delkevic exhaust collector sealant
« on: July 13, 2024, 06:24:48 PM »
Just wondered if there was a consensus on what to use?
I’ve seen rtv silicone and anti seize mentioned. Getting a bit of carbon blow by when installed dry.

Thanks

Not rtv due to temp, antisieze doesnt make sense, exhaust pasteas used on cars would be best

It doesn't use a graphite/carbon gasket?

I couldn't figure out "pasteas" I thought maybe it was a Brit thing.
Searched it, and found exhaust assembly paste. Then came back and re read it, I guess you must have missed a spacing, paste as. Sorry, it was confusing in morning fog brain at 0500.

Anyhow, I'm watching this as I have a Hindle system to mount up eventually that is also stainless steel.
Someone on a car racing forum said they use Coppaslip on their stainless steel exhaust system mounting as a lubricant/sealer. It helps to be able to move the pieces around in mounting to get the best fit in tight fitting pipes.

No need to seal a Hindle 4-2-1.
Mine has a very tight fit.
Important to not tighten the exhaust spigots bolted to head (with stock crush seals) until the entire system is mounted.

We've installed 4 Delkevik exhaust systems and always use their red sealant paste with no leaks.

All four of our systems came with a tube of it. They would probably send you a tube for free if you ask. They sent me a center stand stop for free, it didn't come in the KZ 1000LTD kit I bought.

I think Delkevic have stopped supplying their red sealant as the last two systems I bought didn't have any in the box.

For other stainless systems (I haven't tried a Delevik yet) I have used Permatex Ultra Copper sealant successfully for the collector joints, it seems to cope with the temperature very well.

No sealant in my Delkevic box. Nothing used. Never a leak at the collector or anywhere else

I ordered a Delkevic 4into1 last September timeframe (for a 550) and the sealant WAS in the box.

We bought a system for the 81' Suzuki GS 1100E two months ago and it had a tube of sealant.

To all those that received the sealant, did it smell or look like it was silicone based? Did it dry hard or flexible?

Thanks

Don't recall any smell but it did harden up.  It was difficult to remove after I took the pipes back apart, but some acetone helped.

I think Delkevic have stopped supplying their red sealant as the last two systems I bought didn't have any in the box.

I bought one 6 mos or so ago and it came with it, I did not actually use it though.
