1975 CB400F Owners manual
« on: April 17, 2024, 02:25:28 PM »
I want to thank a very giving member on here( SanDogDewey ) for giving me a owners manual for my bike and shipping it to my door and wanting nothing in return. What a great community.

I have a question about it.  I have been looking on ebay and etsy for one for me to buy. All i have ever seen on the current auctions and the sold auctions are the Orange ones?  The listings states 1975. Is this just an early printing or are they just not out there? It clearly says 1975 and CB400F0. bonus it is the color of my bike
1976 Z50A YELLOW
1970 CT70 BLUE
1971 CT70H ORANGE
1972 CT70H GREEN
1973 CL200 BLUE
1973 CB350F RED
1975 CB360T RED
1975 CB400F BLUE
1975 CB550 ORANGE
1976 CB750F RED

Wernt the orange ones service books not owners manuals
Semi Geriatric ex-Honda mechanic and MOT tester (UK version of annual inspection). Garage full of "projects" mostly 500/4 from pre 73 (no road tax in UK).

No there are some orange ones out there Bryan, I recently bought a CB550F one and it was a sort of light orange colour, depends a lot on the model and the market they were written for, the CB500K for example had a picture of the bike on a blue background but not for all markets.
I seem to recall the service books as red, stamped hundreds of them back in the day, I still wonder how many of them still exist with my signature on the PDI section and on the service stamps, not many I’d imagine.

Ozzybud, you in turn can render our great community a favour by scanning your manual and upload it. That can be done here, or in the UK site - contact Bryanj or Ashimoto - or at https://www.honda4fun.com/ - contact Tums. I myself have uploaded several Honda documents and it gives a good feeling all the world consult them.

Curious….. That says 1975 but that isn’t a 1975 400F on the cover?

Good catch! I see it now it is not a Cb400f on the cover.the pages inside are unusually white and fresh. Not indicative of being 50 years old. Wondering if it is a repop?

The bike looks like a 1992+ CB400 Super Four

That's a later reprint.
Maybe from Honda back in the '90's or more recently from Helminc.

Helminc is licensed through Honda to produce high quality copies of their old manuals.

+1 on a Helmic reprint, as the front cover isn't like any Honda original I have seen from the factory. Just as good though if your not looking for originality.

Ozzybird can compare his with the one here: https://www.honda4fun.com/dwnload/Owners-Manual/CB400-Libretto-Uso-Manutenzione.pdf
In general: the Honda Owner's Manuals that have real photos are much, much better and offer more info  than the ones with drawings.

It looks similar to the other original manuals i have for other bikes. Real pictures and the like.

The back or inside of the manual will tell you what you have original vs reprint. If it is a reprint it will not be a Japan printed unit and likely USA. It could be original yet the paper will normally have some yellowing unless stored in very good conditions over the years.

My 74 cb550 has an orange cover manual...it isn't I in the greatest shape as it was carried on the bike at some point.

My seat is missing the both hinge Pins and it was apparently a cb500 seat as it didn't have the correct lock,  being fit with the non-locking latch like on early cb750s and it was missing pieces to the latch. The seat even had the hook. But, the cover had the correct pattern for the cb550 from 74. Was it the same as some cb500K-s?
That is a very nice condition manual. Mine only has a pale indication it is 50 years old!
I need to get my CX back together and then get the cb550 resto started, it has been off the road since the 80s mid or late 80s as I recall...

It still has the California title I didn't register it and now AZ requires you to register any vehicle you title even if it is a project that is going to sit they want their 25-30 a year...
