I just thought I post this note on the USA forum, lest anyone might have missed it on the general and Canada fora.

I’m doing a wee trip to visit all the Belfasts in N America on my 1972 750 K2 (UK bike before anyone tells me its a K3/K4 or whatever); there are 20 from PEI, Canada to WA, dropping down as far as GA and many points in between.

I have a website recording the journey which I try, mostly unsuccessfully to keep up-to date.

Notice to all the USA members, invite Sean to stop by or ride out to meet up with him. He's a hoot and get some 1st hand stories of his trips! Check out his map of planned route. He's flexible to an extent. He'll be in the US until 10/29.
I rode over to eastern NH to Mike Vashon's to ride up to Saco Maine on Saturday to meet up with Sean, then the 3 of us headed to Steve Blake's Honda Restoration in Pittsfield NH where Andy750 was awaiting our arrival.  Steve gave us a tour of the shop and parts rooms.
Sean and I headed to my place for the night and returned to Steve's with the van on Sunday to pick up the Wixom fairing he offered Sean for a bit more protection from the elements(replaced the smaller clear plastic screen)and we bought some parts too.
The next couple of days we spent working on Sean's K4 in my shop and reminiscing of pasts rides we each have had,  went to the local bike night. When it came time for Sean to head off to his next stop in NY I rode along over to Brattleboro VT with him. We stopped in Keene NH for coffee and up walks a bloke from Australia and he and his girl spent 45 minutes sharing of rides we'd been on. What a hoot!
You never know who you will meet up with along the way. Even a couple from Australia!

A quick update and a request.

I’ve now been through Maine, New Hampshire, Ontario and New York and am on my way to Belfast in PA. I have had amazing hospitality en route from Newday777, The weather has improved dramatically since I get absolutely drenched riding down from Niagara Falls.

I’m currently in Montgomery, PA (near Williamsport) and after the next Belfast, I’ll be heading to Maryland (Sparks Glencoe) and then over towards Pittsburg.

I need to do a service and to get a new rear tyre. Is there anyone in the area who could guide me towards the best way to get the tyre? I could also do with a workshop/garage to do the service.

Momo has a nice shop but don't know if he is setup for tires other than levering them on and off like the rest of us mere mortals. He is handy with a wrench and he is in PA just W of Philly.

Sean….. rear tire wearing fast? we should have done it when you were here. Last time I did that on the road (my KLR650) I called ahead to a dealer in the area we were headed. Confirmed they had the tire and made a date. Pulled in their lot and handed them my rear wheel (removed it in their lot). They gouged me on the tire and mount/balance pricing, but we’re very quick and pleasant. Sometimes getting screwed is convenient! Good luck, J.

What brand do you prefer?   

There is a Honda dealer in Pittsburg,  I called to see if they have a tire in stock but they are not open yet.

Hindsight, John, hindsight. We should have for the cam chain too. I had to do it in the car park at the border.

Steve I have a Metzeler 4.00x18 on at the moment. The front is new and the same brand so it’d be good to find a match if possible.

Heading towards Allentown, N of Philadelphia, then down to Cokeysville, N of Baltimore, then out towards Pittsburg via Gettysburg.

  I checked my phone and didn't find Larry or Momo. It was there once but while flying a giant homemade kite with my grandkids my phone found a pond and went for a swim. Some of the numbers didn't survive the re-load.

I called around and finally found someone in Baltimore - Pete’s Cycle Co. $177 for the tyre and $75 to fit it if I take the wheel off.
So if anyone’s out there near Baltimore who can assist with a tyre change, I’d appreciate it.

YIKES!¡! $75! IF YOU TAKE THE WHEEL OFF! UNBELIEVABLE. Highway Bandits.


Back on the 70s when on the road I carried a pair of tire spoons and a spare tube for each wheel and a spark plug air compressor. I only had to replace one tube from a flat at 70 mph. I was back on the road in 45 minutes.

Sean….. As I said the other day, that’s the norm around here too! I find the tires are 20-25% less on line, but then the local guys refuse to mount what they don’t sell. I support my local shop, when I can. But those attitudes prompted me to buy new spoons and balancing/ trueing stand!

That’s the new Dunlop D404 for the K8. Nicely priced option?
