CB 650 mystery engine stamp
« on: May 06, 2024, 04:20:35 PM »
Hi all, I was given a CB650 which was a former Kuwati Police bike... still has the Kuwaiti lettering on it. It's in rough shape and before I get to working on it, I'd like to figure out the year of the engine. The code stamped on the engine does not Show up in any of the documentation that I am seeing. Can anyone reliably tell me the year of this bike based on the following engine stamping ? It is: RG01F-20006C

I haven't seen an "RG" on those engines, but have seen "RC".
See SOHC4shop@gmail.com for info about the gadgets I make for these bikes.

The US-bound CB650s were stamped RC03, RC05, and RC08. I can't speak for bikes bound for other non North American countries.

But, you have a few things to do.

1. On the steering stem, there should be a sticker or plaque that shows the year and model.
2. Take a picture of the carbs. It'll be clear whether they're from 79-80 or 81-82, but there are year-specific models that came with these bikes. PD50A (1979), PD50B (1980), VB44A (1981), VB44C (1982). I have also seen reference to VB44B carbs, but I can't be sure what they came on.
