Has anyone tried Bel Ray 'Mineral' EXL 4T ?
« on: May 08, 2024, 03:20:14 PM »
I'm not afraid of asking folks questions about oil.
I've been running Shell Rotella T4 15/40wt for over 10 years in different bikes;it's moving upwards toward $20 a gallon here in the Ca. Wally-world.
Shifting seems to degrade a bit after 500 miles w/ the Rotella..

Has anyone tried the Bel Ray 4T 'Mineral'  EXL and liked it? or how did it perform ?
I can get a 4 Liter 20/50 jug of it from Dennis Kirk for less than $30+shipping.

I am sure I have used it in the past...I don't remember anything specific except the engine didn't blow and any mc specific 20w50 that I have used provides better shifting than Rotella
If it works good, it looks good...

Dennis Kirk is nice to deal with;even calling them, they're pleasant.
I ordered the 4 liter 20/50 jug of it,but it's back-ordered from 2-4 weeks.
I'll wait because it comes recommended.

HondaMan, Mark Paris, runs this oil and recommends it.
It is a good oil, it has a decent quantity of zinc in the oil so you do not need to dose the oil with zddp unless you wish to ...

This is Mark's recommendation just yesterday to clear up a gear crunch into 1st on a cold K4

"The Bel-Ray EXL Mineral Oil in 20w50. This one is the closest copy I have found to the famous Castrol XLR. I still end up adding a bit of ZDDP (1-2 ounces, 2 if the filter is changed and the crankcase drained)"

Btw, couple sellers on Amazon prime offer it for few pennies over $40 if Dennis Kirk charges a bunch for shipping...tax you will have to pay regardless of where you buy it...

The total with Dennis Kirk came to $40.99 including shipping and tax and my card/charge is already set to pay when it comes off back order.
They told me if I choose to buy it elsewhere or change my mind,I can call them and cancel anytime. I like dealing with them;miss their catalogs which they discontinued in 2017'.

Edit:their 'back order' was less than a week  :D Just arrived today.
