« on: May 10, 2024, 09:21:46 AM »
We rode to Topeka to meet at the Motorcycle Classics office on the CB750 SOHC world tour. My brother and I arrived late and missed the office tour but we went to lunch with the Editor and took the back way back towards St. Louis.
How many of us tour riders are still hanging around here?

That night GZ went on the Tonight show to show Jay a piston from a CB.

I left Humboldt in the late afternoon of April 23, 2011 and rode about 100 miles down into the smog pit of the greater Phoenix area, where I spent the night with member climbingaz (Shaun/Shawn?). We left his place at 6:00 AM the next day, with his bike in a trailer, to rendezvous with Jcartel (Justin) in Lordsburg, NM, picking up raftster (David) along the way. After the lizard was transferred to Shaun's bike, he took him back to Phoenix, with David and I following in the support vehicle, and then I took GZ to Humboldt, getting home around 10:30 PM.
On April 25, I rode up to Seligman, where I was joined by some folks from Kingman with Denver's choppers for a ride on old route 66 back to Kingman.
On April 26, we ferried GZ from Kingman to 29 Palms, where he was handed off to scondon (Sean).
It's pretty amazing how fast the lizard traveled!

I rode with Godzilla all over Michigan and Wisconsin and a little Illinois, and Indiana too...I don't know how you guys remember dates, I sure don't.  But I remember most of the good times, good rides (and bad rainy ones too!), and good friends that I met.  Still even see some of them around from time to time like Ekpent, Bankerdanny, Old Scrambler...

I just remember that the day we went to NM and back was Easter Sunday; I had to search to find the actual date. ;)

Actually, I could be off a little on the date, the GZ photo was a facebook memory that popped up.  My brother and I met Jerry, and the Kansas and Missouri guys at Topeka, we rode back to West Central Illinois. Over the week, we took GZ to our local cb750 guru at Charlies Cycle supply West Jersey Il. and the following weekend we header towards Chicago, met one of the guys at Dixon, the other Chicago guys at Portillos in Pheasant Run and picked up a couple more while we rode through Chicago to 3 Floyds brew bub in Munster Indiana. We were so wet when we arrived hours late the manager took our riding gear to the kitchen to warm it up and drip dry while someone mopped around us.
The Indiana- east crew took it from there. I'm still sorry we made them wait so long and leave in the dark and rain. We found a motel and they let us park under the canopy. In the morning, we were still damp and it was 40*F out. My brother Bud went down at a stop sign on wet road, but no injuries or damage. Jerry said he got coated with sleet while going over the mountains so we didn't have it so bad.

I remember April 29th because US95 was closed that morning due to snow and that is a little late for that to happen, even around here.  A semi or two had attempted to climb the hill out of Rome, jack knifed and plugged up the road.  By afternoon, the snow melted and the trucks were recovered and I got going.  That was a cold 400 miles, getting in at 9pm.

I remember the lizard coming by my Golden, CO workplace, and we (Shawn?) rode up the side of Lookout Mountain to pose with the poster and the critter, with Golden in the background about 1500 feet below us.

You know what I remember about the WI ride is we must have had 8 guys or so lined up for a pic that I can't locate right now. It was taken at Scramblers home where he showed me a KO project he was selling for friend who passed away. Well, I couldn't get that bike out of my head and ended up going back with my trailer. Good times...if I find the pic I'll post it up. The bike ended up being my blue/green. Another I wish I did not sell, but sometimes you just need room for more projects.

Ofrens ride was a pretty frozen one as I recall. Mooshie had Godzilla a bit and recall Scottly doing the ride to pick it up from her... I just couldn't adapt to ride Shawn's bike after he insisted, it was cafe setup with the very uncomfortable position. I was not very healthy at the time and workplace dynamics of managers not supporting me in my role and I dermin8ng my work area and throwing me under the bus frequently was driving me deep into depression and I was abusing sugary food to boost my mood and that always results in weight gains. I had ruptured my Achilles and had it repaired and was not back to full strength.
Should have left that job long before the contract ended.
Shawn was riding the 750 and having to lean into the wind fiercely as the crosswind was trying to blow things off the road, a cold day as the wind was sucking the heat out of everyone!

Johnie, I didn't forget about you!  Just have not had the pleasure of you and your bikes' company since the second relay.  I have seen those other guys at least a couple other times over the years.  I don't get over to Wisconsin like I used to.

The godzilla riding has not taken a back seat, it is not being done!  Period.  Ekpent lives 5 miles away so we hang out and ride often, Bankerdanny comes around here often enough, I ran into Old Scrambler at Barber Vintage Festival a few years ago...and now I just realized I have not mentioned Kevin D.!

All guys I have stayed in actual "real life" contact with after meeting through that relay rally

The pandemic killed a lot of things, even Mooshie is looking to sell Dash!  She offered to sell it to me, but I have a bike I need to pull my thumb out and get to work on.  Scott, Mooshie, amd who else were the Godzilla ride driving forces…
I know Mooshie and Scottly were after the first, everyone who participated in the first liked it, Lefty, Godzilla’s cousin or was it brother filled in for the 2nd ride while the OG Godzilla took a walkabout I believe, then came PimpZilla out of the deep blue and outta nowhere for ride #3…

I will send Lisa a ping email with link to this thread since the reminiscing of what was…

We rode to Topeka to meet at the Motorcycle Classics office on the CB750 SOHC world tour. My brother and I arrived late and missed the office tour but we went to lunch with the Editor and took the back way back towards St. Louis.
How many of us tour riders are still hanging around here?

I took off the afternoon of April 29, 2011 to Fernley, NV to meet up with Sean, Fred and Matt.  It was a memorable start for my part of the relay and is crazy to think it was 13 years ago.

It was a cold day but coming up the road and seeing that F sitting there waiting with around 100lbs of baggage was worth it.

Cold day is an understatement.  I remember your photos of icicles hanging off the bikes.  You had a couple of epic rides to keep the ball rolling.  Too bad so many of the photos in the relay threads have photo#$%*et's splooge all over them or are lost.  One of these days I'll get a hold of you so you can unlock the 2011 thread and I'll fix mine.

I remember that fondly--I cannot believe it was 13 years ago!  It was a blast meeting all the SOHC guys and of course I stood out like a sore thumb  8)  and though I still ride it is not as often as I wish on Dash and he is for sale but I want him to go to an SOHC member (but don't have the heart to really put it out there in an official capacity).
It was a lot of coordination to get it all done and I am honored to have been a part of it.
Fast Jimmy was part of the extravaganza and we still keep in touch and have a ride planned in 2025 in Canada.  Maybe we should make a thing of it and just descend on his home  :)
