I just finished setting up my oil cooler on my cb650 and I’m going to share what I used.
First off, ripple rock racers recently released a kit and 650 fitment is included but it uses a spin on filter. Yes Lockhart did exist but good luck finding one.
The first piece of the puzzle is the adapter. I used the 350F/400 adapter from TTR400. Available from 4into1. The 650 uses all of the same oil filter components as the 350F. Housing, filter, bolt, spring, washer, spacer. It’s all the same.

You must use the one with threaded oil cooler lines, not the flange style ones. Apparently there are 2 styles. They’re dirt cheap on eBay, fit nicely, and Honda decided it was a good size for a 650cc engine so it’s good enough for me.
Next the adapter for the cooler to a -6 a fitting. The thread size on the cooler is m16x1.5. I used PN 16619 from Vibrant. It includes a crush washer to seal it to the cooler.
Next you’ll need some -6 hose ends. This will be up to you and your exhaust. You’ll either want 90s or 45s connecting to the cooler fittings. I used 45s, ran the lines between the pipes and down the frame on either side. Crossing the lines let me run them very nicely. Plenty of clearance to the exhaust.
The line itself, is -6 stainless braided line. I believe what I have is from aeroquip. I purchased it locally from a hydraulic hose shop. Make sure it’s rated for some heat and oil and make sure you’re using fittings that work with your hose. PTFE hose uses different fittings.
On the adapters, the adapter includes -6 male thread fittings. Here I used 120 or 150 degree fittings. The adapter inlet/outlet need to be pointed downward to fit the engine so you’ll need fittings that point back up toward your cooler.
When installing the adapter, use the included washer that’s intended for use on 500/550s. Without it, the bolt adapter bit bottoms out before the adapter makes full contact with the sealing surface. Assemble your oil filter off the adapter like you do stock.
When mounting the cooler to the frame, the horn mount on the down tube is an m6x1.0 thread. The cooler has a hole that accepts an 8mm bolt. You can get “automotive” adapter studs. I found one at my local hardware store, or you can order from somewhere like McMaster carr. You’ll need a m6x1.0 to m8x1.xx stud. Mine happens to be m8x1.25 but the pitch isn’t critical. Get whatever. I also suggest a “wiz” style flange but to help hold it in place. There is a small tab on the frame side mount, you’ll need to bend this a little bit I would not bend it fully out of the way. It can help keep the cooler from rotating.
I do intend to add some kind of extra suppose from the horizontal tubes to the lower mounts on the cooler just to make sure it’s in place. I haven’t figure out what I want to do yet. This is also my first time making an Lines. Wish me luck they don’t blow apart lol
