73’ CB350F Delkevic header bolt up
« on: June 02, 2024, 10:42:36 AM »
Ordered Delkevic’s 4 into 1 cafe stye exhaust and have it on, pending final tightening. I’m wondering if anyone that installed one of these can tell me how much of the stud comes up over the nut?  I cant find a specific torque value for the exhaust header mounting nuts, but I’m going with a generic value of 9ft.lbs (108 in lbs). I have them all to the point where the end of the stud is even with the top of the nut, but my new inch-pound torque wrench still hasnt broke. Making matters worse its a Harbor Freight brand that I have never used before - but I am well versed in proper use of a torque wrench.
Any thoughts?  See pics

I've never torqued any of these nuts - just use the reasonably tight method once I feel the gasket crushing down. I do check them after a few heat cycles and usually nip them up a little more. They only have to hold the header / gasket firmly in place so that they don't leak.
If they are 6mm then 8-9 ft lbs is correct if you want to be certain.

The reason it hasn’t clicked is because the tighter you go on the nut, the more you’re crushing the copper O ring. As said, nip it up, run the motor and get it fully hot. Let it cool, then run the motor and inspect for any leaks.

"Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of it's victim may be the most oppressive. It may be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated, but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience." - C.S. Lewis
