Congratulations to Sean Barney
« on: June 10, 2024, 01:16:53 PM »
I went to the Gilmore Museum motorcycle show near Kalmazoo yesterday and completely failed to take a picture of my bike. I did however take a picture of myself next to Sean's bike, which happened to take 3rd place in the Japanese motocycle category.

Neato!

(I was in the show too, but my 750 wasn't behaving, so I didn't ride that.  I had the Valkyrie and the OTHER yellow GL1000, and I remember this bike because I was parked right next to it!)

Lol!...man I need to pay closer attention around here!  Thanks all so much for the congrats.  I finished this bike almost a year ago but was kind of half heartedly trying to preserve that new build freshness for a good showing.  But I did not really expect many to care for it since it has several bold deviations from stock, mixed with many K! accurate restoration cues also.  I was really surprised that it got third in the Japanese class which was the largest class at this show and was full of many beautiful restorations and survivors.

Lucien!  Pretty crazy that we were within feet of each other for so much time Sunday and did not realize who we were!

Are you in the area? My girlfriend bought a house a few miles east of Gull Lake last year, so I am there almost every weekend. We should put together a group ride.

The Gilmore is amazing. My first visit was in 2007 before I bought my first Honda. My ex-wife and I were in Kalamazoo to go canoeing and I saw a brochure for it in the hotel. The museum is easily 2x the size it was then and has become even more worth visiting. My girlfriend bought a house about 15 minutes away last year and this year ss a birthday present bought us a membership. They have a show of some kind almost every weekend between May and October. Last year I also went to the Mad Dogs and Englishmen british car show and the antique tractor show.

Steve-O, I know you love old cars, so you are certainly gonna love the Gilmore museum...it's almost like the Barber Museum but for cars (unfortunately, the motorcycle collection is quite small and only relatively recently started...but growing!)

Yes, it is on the Bucket List!
Our good friends have a Cottage on the Chain of Lakes, so I am up there a couple times each summer, it's two hours away.

I drive from Lincoln Park to our house near the museum every weekend. I can say with absolute confidence that getting from the Chain of Lakes to the Gilmore is a 3 hour drive on average.

If you want to make the trip, give me a shout a couple weeks ahead of time and I might be able to offer accommodations in one of our guest rooms and our membership includes 2 guests.
