4into1Motorcycleparts Carb Kits?
« on: July 03, 2024, 11:37:58 am »
Anybody tried them for the CB550K carbs? Any good? Any Bad? I bought them mostly to get a complete o-ring and gasket set. I may try the floats and jets if mine are gas logged. I know my float jets have some gunk, so new ones will only help. Any thoughts appreciated.

I have tried them and would not recommend using any of the jets that come in the kit. Unless yours are corroded beyond use you are better off cleaning and using the OEM ones. The newer ones, especially from 4into1 just don't have the size accuracy that the OEM ones do causing lots of tuning issues.

Hope that helps.

I have tried their pilot jets for CB750 round top carbs. 2 of them broke when tighten them. Had to drill out the brass debris.

Found a review saying the same thing, broken pilot jets.

I think CB500 pilots are of same design, CB550 I do not know.

The general consensus is to use stock brass jets, needles, not aftermarket.
Better to clean the old jets.

Main jet is normally the only jet to change if the setup need more fuel after exhaust system change or better flowing filtering system.

I've used them, but for gaskets only. Last time I had a kit, which was a few years ago, I compared the OEM float needle to the kit, and the kit needle was visibly shorter and would have made it very hard to set the floats.

Thanks all! I have some jets coming from JetRus as far as pilots and mains. I may have to try and sonic clean the float jets and needles. At least oi have all the o-rings and gaskets.

I tried their floats in my CB650 once. Never again. Failed within a season. Went back to my 42 year old floats and everything is great.

I used all the gaskets and O-rings I needed. I checked out the floats, didn't like the steel pin, would rather use the brass OEM. My floats seemed to be fine. I did like the bowl gasket, perfect fit, no futzing with the non shaped ones again.

I was almost tempted to install the entire kit and write up a proper review on these carb kits that people could use but I just want to get this this running for now. I can always do that later if I'm feeling a bit masochistic! 😀

I used these kits on my 550K.
Just the gaskets etc., no brass.
No issues.
Same for my CJ360T and CL350.

I don't know about those kits, but I have gotten other kits in the past.  Like others mentioned, I found the brass bits so far out of spec as to be useless.  I thought the same thing, I'll just use the rubber stuff.  I found that the rubber is poor quality, shrinking and hardening in a comparatively short time.  So that was a bust too.  So as long as OEM is available, I get that.  Buy once and cry once as they say.

That was going to be my two cents: verify that the rubber bits are Viton rubber. I have had aftermarket kits with rubber bits that swelled beyond recognition and started leaking within a week of exposure to ethanol laced fuel. Leaving puddles of gasoline under the bike while stopped at a light from the marginal rubber tips on the float needles had me skirting with an impression of "Ghost Rider". My best performing carb packing has come in the form of genuine Honda kits. K&L float needles are a close second.

Luckily my carbs don't have robber tips on the float needles. And also luckily, I have a few places close by that sell non -cornholio gas! I buy it regularly for any engine that is old or stored for a any length of time.
