Edit....fixed. read through to go through the process and fix.

This is perplexing. My K5.
The headlight comes on in park mode(hi and low switches it as in run position).  Only the tail light should be on in the park mode. Headlight works in run but has blown the light fuse switching to hi beam.
I believe it has the original switches and harness. I guess I need to dig into the headlight bucket to find the pickup cause. Argh

Stu….. I’ve seen one with the lead for a front marker build that is/was in the bottom of the headlight bowl. If that feed is used incorrectly, could be what you have?

Does the hi/Lo switch work when key is in park?

I'm thinking about this post Andy made in April when he had replaced the main harness and had problems.
I have 2 br/red wires that I need to verify

Edit.... nothing to do with my K5.....

Well the perplexitites continue....
I have 2 brown/red, br/r, wires from the main harness at the headlight bucket. They ohm to the fuse panel.
The wiring diagram shows only one br/r in the bucket.
The second br/r in the diagram shows it tied to the bk/w before it gets into the bucket but it doesn't ohm out to do that!!!    🤔
So I looked at the K6 diagram and my K6 project that has the bucket wiring in tact. Only one br/r(not attached to anything) but the K6 has an added bk/r in the mix so they definitely changed the harness for the K6.
Next I checked the K4 diagram and my K4 project in the back room. Both showed the same wiring layout as main harness in the bucket as the K5 has in the bucket but my K4 has a jumper between the 2 br/r in the bucket. (I remember pulling the jumper a year ago on the K5 but didn't get a picture of it before pulling it apart...I plugged it into a y/r (?)last year as the br/r have a yellow/clear jacket, so that may be where I was blowing the fuse.)
Anyone have a K5 or K4 to check for me how their br/r in the bucket is? Trying to get this right this time....

The br/red both go to fuse box either side of headlight fuse, one side goes to the dip switch feed in the lh switch the other goes to the r/h switch wire that has power with ignition on but start NOT pushed but no power when start pushed and i dont think that is yellow/ white

Yes there is the one br/r to the left switch for the headlight.
The question that needs an answer is where does the other go to? There isn't a br/r to the right switch.

No there never was, it was a short jumper wire, you have to test the wiring

I have the jumper but there isn't any indication in the diagram or service manual 🤔

Does your K5 have an actual on/off switch for the headlight?
The believe the K5's were the last model to have that.
Do you have a copy of the Honda Shop Manual or Parts List for your bike? Get one here:

Yes it does and yes it is the last year before the deletion.

If it has the on/off the jumper goes berween the wire that is live when lights on and the black/red.
We never had the K 2,3,4 or 5 in UK so i was working from memory.
I believe the jumper has 2 male ends to connect 2 wires with female ends, the diagrams are not good and confusing arround those years

Black and red are only on the K6.

Yes males ends are on both ends of the jumper. Brown wire with a white cap on one end. (Why didn't they make proper end colors like they did with the turn signals using a short heat shrink to mark the color on black wires.)

At this point I don't have power to thre headlight fuse or headlight. Everything else works as it should.

Got it figured out. The single brown/white  to the brown/red is where the jumper goes. I added a red heatshrink to the end that had the clear protector.
It was properly, headlight only on with key in run, turns off at park mode as it should.
Thanks for the answers.
Maybe this should be put somewhere to help others later on?

The wiring was a stop gap in between models thing before the US made lights on mandatory, i have most of the books but rarely need to reference them due to lack of import to uk.
Honda only gave us K2 750 and K1 500 till about 76

Yeah, and the (unconstitutional) Chevron Doctrine was FINALLY overturned by the Supreme Court last week, which was how that regulation from the DOT here was granted the force-of-law against Japanese bike makers who suddenly had to have the headlights ON all the time.

Now they can't enforce it anymore. Should be fun to see how this plays out.  8)

Mark, i remember pdi ing one of the first 1340 Harleys sold in UK and being advised to cut a link wire on the ignition switch so the lights were not always on as the battery couldnt cope! The brakes were utter crap as well

Back when I bought my new K6 to replace the totaled K5 I wanted to be able to turn off the lights like my K5, because of the changed harness I couldn't just get the K5 RH switch to wire in plug and play (that I could figure out at the time), so I got a couple of XR75 kill switches out of stock, had to modify them to mount on the dash clamp bolts and jumpered them in the headlight bucket to turn off the headlight through the ground with one switch and the running lights with the other.
