pro stock bike & NHRA
« on: April 30, 2024, 09:34:56 am »
Has anyone been watching the latest pro stock bike controversy? V&H as usual in the middle of it. In funny car it appears they are picking on one team over technicalities, first telling them it's OK and then reversing their decisions.

Today I saw that one of the TV guys apparently cable tied Matt Smiths air shifter line against his exhaust pipe while installing a camera. That caused an early round loss. W0W.

Matt Smith offered to swap bikes with Gauge Herrera to prove he can 60' as good as anyone in the class. His point is Gauge has an advantage in the bike, not his talent. I see no upside for V&H to do that, if Matt was slower he would just say they changed the bike for the test.

Doesn't the saying there is no such thing as bad media coverage? The more they have attention overall the better...they gain viewership when people watch to see such and such get their comeuppance...the controversy gains some viewers as they tune in to see their guy beat someone who they don't like or is their guy's foe...

True, the Cycledrag guy has been whipping up the noise around it. His hits have to be a lot higher, here I am talking about it.
I watched the Larry "Spiderman" McBride interview too and was surprised to see the plain bearing Suzuki billet case and crankshaft for his nitro bike, so I know it exists. The inserts are made for a European car I think.
It would be even more fun if a Kawasaki or other bike company would spend a few million to make a run at it.

It was good to see Matt Smith make a winning pass against Gaige in the shootout, I think the V2's have an advantage where the altitude is higher so we might see a Buell resurgence if there are any altitude tracks left.
I'm a V&H fan but not a crazy fanboy type.  I wondered if they still own Vance and Hines the company, or just the race team now, google says both.

I'm wondering what motorcycle classes are as fast or faster than pro stock bike? They did a demonstration run with a turbo Hayabusa that was faster by a good margin. I think it was street legal too.

Wow, maybe those are the bikes that we should be watching on TV.

Its crazy watching those no bar bikes get down the track. Lot of technology at work to them under control. Not lije the early days of 3/4 track wheelies or uncontrollable tire spin. Aftermarket ECU's changed the game.

I have to admit I succumbed to the allure of the GS1100E. It cost less than fixing my 1124cc CB engine.
