My streetfighter is coming together again....
« on: March 19, 2007, 12:25:34 PM »
...after a total stripdown.
Picked up the powdercoated frame last week and the engine is coming back together.
No biggie stuff this time, just a general refreshment.
It will look pretty much the same as before except for the colors and some small stuff.

Looked like this before the teardown.

Cheers
Dan

Hey Dan, Just keep us posted on this, cause it looks like it's gonna be quite a ride when you are finished with it! Judging from your efforts on your 750, there's no way we'll be disappointed. Shame we can't have a BOTM for "Other Bikes".

         Hey Dan,
Thank you for the kind words. I may not into some Bike Styles but, that doesn't mean that I don't appreciate what goes into a build. ;) If I can't compliment a person on his bike, I don't say anything. I mean, what I say is what I feel. Plain and simple.

Now, back to the subject at hand. That sucker is looking better all the time. I'll be keeping up with your build because I enjoy seeing anything come together and yours is especially interesting. I'm not much into this style of bike, but I'm learning to appreciate them more, as time goes on. Yours is part of the reason that I'm changing my opinion. The Triumph that Aptech (Jim) has, has also been a deciding factor. I don't know that I'd be that comfortable on one myself though, my body doesn't conform to things like it used to. ;D ::) Take care and keep up the good work. ;) 8)

well the bike  started life as a track day bike when it was new.

I got the bike for 300 bucks (running also) and it had 2300 miles on the clock
not sure how many of the miles where on the track but its a strong runner needless to say
It was wrecked but the frame was straight. The forks where bent a little so they where fixed and rebuilt.
I bought a tank, dash Assembly, radiator, and fairing halo on E-bay for another 300 bucks.
I bought a clutch side cover and the charging side cover new.
I check compression and did a leak down. compresion was right where it was suppose to be and the leak down test showed no more the 1% on all cylinders. The pipe is stock from the head to the slip on but the slip on is made of 3 differant pipes and it does make the neighbors look out the windows sometimes.
I jetted the carbs with a dynojet kit although Its a little rich in the middle.
As far as the head lights, go to pep boys auto parts and find the after market driving lights and thats all they are.
I tied them in to the lighting harness and its a real conversaion piece
I put on braided lines and rebuilt the calipers. Put on Avon rain tires (just to be differant)
I need to pain the little tail section as well as the front finder to match the tank. (satin black) and then
have the wheels powder coated gold and then I think its done
I have to many projects with other bikes to really get carried away with this one
its a real blast up in the mountains. (not with the rain tires but). Heres some more of my bikes. Hope you enjoy them

          Hey b-j,
That's quite a collection of bikes you've got there and quite a variety too. The story behind the CB600, was very interesting to hear and I, for one, appreciated hearing it too. 8)

                                   Later on, Bill :) ;)

Well, since this summer has been spent rebuilding the Fighter and the house, the 750 hasn´t turned a wheel  :-[
It has been a fairly busy period but me and my two best friend still managed to squeeze in our annual 3-day "speedtouring"-trip.
We always end up in Norway (great coastal roads...) but this year the weather kept us in Sweden.
Drove from Piteå to Karlstad and back in 3½ days, and the first 2½ days where spent getting there..... Just cruised and made lots of stops.
On the third day the "speedtouring"-part kicked in and we drove all the way back in one day.
That is 1123 kilometers in one day.....  8)
Anyways, it was a good shakedown after the rebuild and nothing fell off or broke down  ;)

The house is where the most time has been spent.
I have widened and lengthened the roof. It just looked too weird before as if the roof was two sizes too small for the house...
The roof was green  :-X but now it is black, thank god!
Took off the crappy 16 mm outer panelling and put on another 60 millimeters of insulation. The winters up here ARE pretty cold and I rather spend money on my bikes than on paying heating-bills...  ;)
Been working on a sawmill for ten years and managad to get a REALLY good deal on the new 22 mm panelling.
I tell you, there are quite a few nails in a new panelling. Next time I will get a nail gun for the job...
Still to do is the roof over the porch (will also be lenghtened and widened) and the porch itself.
Better hurry up as winter is coming..... in november that is.

BIG THANKS TO MY FATHER FOR ALL THE HELP WITH THE BUILD, AND TO MY MOTHER FOR PROVIDING THE "GROUND-SERVICE"!

Here´s some pics!

Cheers
Dan

Hey Dan, Good to see you. ;)  Man, you HAVE been busy. It's good that you CAN take a break and do your outing, cause I know that it sure helps to just get out and away for a bit, sometimes. Sounds like the "Streetfighter" is doing well, and that's good. 8) So, are you getting towards the conclusion of the "House Project" and be getting to spend more time on the bikes, or is that a little while down the road? Take care guy.

house looks great dan!

great organization on the bike rebuild.

when i first opened the page all i could see of the picture was the vacuum... would make a great carpet fighter w/ those streamlined looks and low stance  ;D

I am just curious, but what is the reasoning for doing a streetfighter?  Just because you feel like it is a fine answer.  I am wondering if there are real world benefits.

that's kind of like asking why do you comb your hair... both options may be cool but, could you really attribute real world benefits?  hard to tell.   ;D

i look at it as a sort of new age cafe.  can't wait to see dan's answer.
