Seat Cover and foam kits
« on: July 30, 2024, 11:19:06 AM »
I have the OEM seat pan, just wondering about seat cover and foam kits. Mostly Cafe or Flat tracker style? If I remember right the Texavina seats aren't that comfy because they use crappy foam. And in the end I don't want to spend $270 for a crappy, uncomfortable seat when I can build my own. Thanks.

Hey Duanob....Gumtwo on ebay has received many good reviews here for his covers. BTW - it wont come with the Honda logo, if you want it, you'll have to paint it on. Apparently Honda cracked down on them

I used foam from seller top-quality-covers on ebay.  I find a harder foam is more comfortable than a soft squishy foam.  The foam I bought needed to be trimmed a little in the front but I am very happy with it.  It is on the harder side.  I used an original pan with new foam and cover.

I've used Gumtwo covers before, they are nice and this was before Honda made them get rid of the logo. I took the cover and pan into an upholstery shop and they did their magic.

I'm looking more for cafe or flat track style covers and foam to fit. I probably could make my own foam, I have a good foam shop here in town. it's the cover I will need to source.

I actually found the one from J T MARKS closest to the USA K2 seat. There is a complete seat available from a guy in Germany that has the same pattern and it comes with the logo.

Thanks for the tip! I just started looking for a new seat cover for the 550 in my next book. :D

Update: I got the cover. It's made better than the OEM cover that's on the bike now! Nice stitching, with an underpad, looks to be good quality 'hyde, whatever kind it is.

Thanks Evinrude, that's good to know about the comfort. They have some nice styles on their website.

I bought “red foam” and cover  for my ‘69 cb750, from Yamiya. Terrific quality (at a price) and extremely accurate reproduction. The cover is identical to the one I took off. Planning to put it all together next week. Will report.

I use those black springy binder clips to get the cover where I want it before stretching over the tabs. I also used an exacto knife to start the tab hole where the tab points were dull and once I was sure where it wanted to be. I do bend the pointy tabs out a bit but only as far as needed.

Those "red foam" seats were the ones that Cycle Magazine famously called the "Superseat". Mine was really nice until it finally started splitting in the late 1980s.

yeah, also using the exacto knife...recently did a kz1000 seat cover that was such high quality that it was fairly difficult to get the pointy tabs to pierce the vinyl
If it works good, it looks good...
