Dash board and light harness.
« on: August 19, 2024, 08:35:18 AM »
Not really a question anymore but my hair pulling experience. Hopefully save someone else from pulling their hair out.

I bought the bike as a project. Had the dash to hold the bars on but no dash lights or wiring harness. I even have an extra dash from an old project but no wiring. So off to Fleabay and found a couple from the same seller out of Ohio that had the lights and harness. Told him all I needed was the harness. Made an offer that he refused. Never showed a pic of the harness itself but took a chance. Got it, paid $40 and found the harness pretty much useless, corroded, rubber was brittle and falling apart, bulbs were shot. Thought I could make it work. Bought some bulbs from another Fleabayer, actually showed the miniature #57 bulbs in his ad. $10 for 10 of them, they show up and they are the regular #57, bulb is too big to fit in the dash holder. Guy says he did nothing wrong even though I sent pics. Still waiting for a return label. So bought some LEDs that work great, another $10. So now I'm into this for $60 I try and make the harness work, intstall everything on the bike, the lights are working but now I'm blowing fuses like crazy. Turns out the metal light holders are touching some metal somewhere. Back to the interwebs so finally found 4into1 sell new harnesses for about $45. They are nice, new, and they come with proper bulbs. See pics. So now I'm into this for over $100! All the crap I got off of ebay was a waste of money and time considering we;re talking a total of 4 weeks for everything!

I know, I should've come here first. I'm sure someone else has gone through this.

I replaced my dash bulbs with an aftermarket wire harness from VintageCB750 or PartsNmore, can't remember which, but all wires were color coded correctly and worked great.

This is just an entry for the pissed off thread posted on the wrong spot, right?
I ripped one of the rubber boots on my 550 warning lights or turn lights in my gauges being impatient or it being stuck, so I feel your pain. Mine doesn't have the clean solution yours has with new harness for that warning light panel...
