I had to adjust the headlights down, but they actually work very well. Odd there were no rear lights at all. I used two lug holes in the back of the box (the kind you drop a 1/4-20 bolt into and the head locks in the hole) for my bracket and light. I suspect that’s exactly what they’re for and there was a light option. Very convenient!

Thanks for the link to the substitute oil choices. I’ll see if I can find any locally.

I can get a “green plate” permit for it and an ownership. I really have no plans to leave the property with it, so probably not going to do it.

More fun with the LM650. When the seller accepted my very low offer, he added a comment. “The carb may need a cleaning, it occasionally stumbles and dies…..”. I fired it up and drove once around his property and it seemed to run just fine. Ever the optimist, I loaded it up and smiled to myself…..

Sure enough, it did what he said. It just seemed to be running out of gas. The carb was spotless, but the fuel pump seemed to run out of pressure every so often. I did order a pump from Amazon ($12.99). Blew up the suction line, cleaned some crap out of the bottom of the tank and thought, “Problem Solved!”. Put it back together and on we went.

Today it did it again and I thought no wonder he wanted it gone. I have the pump, so back I went. I started draining the tank and noticed the flow died to a trickle after a few minutes (just like last time). Pulled the fitting out of the bottom and found a bit of string sucked into it, and some plastic bits in there too (see attached photo). It must have been a lanyard for the gas cap, that broke off and eventually sank to the bottom? The string was actually folded over and stuck in the fitting! Where the heck was it last time I did this?  "Ruby" runs much better now!

Gave it a good, long, fast run later. Ran really well and no issues. The materials and build quality seem like it should last a while. Gave it a (first) wash! Cleans up nicely.

The transfer case uses  any standard  80W90 diff oil, but the front diff calls for a small amount of “Mobil Fluid 424”. The manual is adamant to use only the Mobil product. Can’t seem to find any here in less than a 5 gallon pail!! Anyone know a source for smaller quantities?

David….. turns out I can order some from LandMaster (like any other part) and they sell it in a small bottle that’s good for one oil change and a bit extra. It only takes a pint! I need a new Viton seal for the bottom of the gas tank, so probably next week.

Ordered it today, and the Viton Seal that pushes into the fuel tank sump. It looses a few drops a day. I guess it’s getting harder and I’ve abused it too many times, clearing the suction line. It seems a day isn’t complete unless I get soaked in fuel at least once!

Bill…. I’m liking this thing a lot! Two big pines dropped across one of our trails overnight. Dragged them out with the front winch, sawed them all up, ran them through to the splitter. Loaded up the LM and ran all the wood up to wood crib on the veranda. Backed right up to the edge and had it all stacked in minutes.

Lots of torque and feels like it will go anywhere. It’s only 4’ wide and has a very tight turning radius. Fits nicely in the garage. Simple construction, all accessible and easy to work on. I think it looks good too! Clever stuff.

4 wheel drive too !  Full time 4-wheel,or can you switch it from 2 to 4 wheel ?

Flick of a switch for 4 wheel drive and a lever to lock the rear diff. Very basic and it works. The tires are so aggressive I have yet to need 4 X 4!

It was definitely a good buy... hopefully the last one you ever need.  A friend in Sierra Vista has owned a yellow TomCar for years and few years back added the longer wheelbase version as well. They use them for fun on and around their property and when they go hunting...they are quite capable machines... Israeli design

Definitely seems like a good buy. The previous owner was frustrated by the intermittent stalling, that was the fuel cap lanyard floating around in the tank! I’ve ordered the front differential oil from the manufacturer. Once that is changed, all fluids are “new”. The only other thing I can think of is to pull in some fresh brake fluid……. DOT3 so nothing special.

I agree! Looking at parts list for this machine today and was pleased to see that 99% of the driveline parts are standard Dana bits. The 90 degree transfer case is a conveyor drive line part and the driveshaft is a simple piece of 1” round stock.

Front diff oil arrived, so it’s changed out. Pulled in some fresh brake fluid and set alignment. Lubricated all the rod ends, brake pads are at +75%, rear shoes look new.  Should be good for a while!
