Is my CB750 a K0 or K1?
« on: August 04, 2024, 02:52:19 AM »
Hi all.
Hope someone can help. in 2020 I bought a CB750 believing it was a K0. US model.
I actually mainly focused on the engine number and with the frame and engine number being relatively close, I thought nothing more of it.
Engine number is: 42565
Frame: CB7501042220

Now when I'm in the process of selling the bike, I'm told that the frame is actually a K1, which obviously devalues the bike.
I checked Carpy's number chart and it says frame is K1.
Any info and help is appreciated.
Thanks!

Being a US model it should have a Vin plate attached to the right side of the steering neck, and have a manufacturing date stamped on the plate. What month and year?

Just to clarify.

Isn't the engine number supposed to be 1042565 ? and not as you wrote 42565, otherwise the difference between engine and frame would be over 100000 and not the 345 I suspect it is.

I own a sandcast with a 1970 title and a K1 with a 1972 title, I've had guys argue that there weren't any 1970 sandcasts. My point is, Mr. Honda didn't know or care that 50 years later we would be trying to make rules about what parts were on which year.
Your bike is clearly a K0.

It was common practice in the dealerships (until the F2/K7 era) for the "K" number to magically increment on the paperwork if the bike didn't sell before January of the next year. The US DOT cracked down on the practice (Honda was the most guilty of it) in 1976, loudly.

Don….. Parallel lives! I still have the original US title for my Sandcast and it shows 1970. My Canadian K1 has been registered as a 1972, since day one!

My UK K6 has a 1977 registration plate and 1st reg date of June 1977. I'd guess some stood around a while, before a discount made them attractive.

concerning U.S.:
exactly. How do they know? The "69" 750 was available up through , technically, 9/20/70.
K1's were sold through 2/72. "year/model" registrations were all over the place. And although U.S. model year began in 1974, Model year designation didn't show up on the bikes until 1976, on the data plate.
So confusion continued.
