XDA event this weekend. VIRGINIA Motorsports Park
« on: August 20, 2024, 10:40:25 PM »
Time for the next event in the XDA series. We're heading to Virginia Motorsports Park this weekend.  I'll compete in street ET on the F3, top sportsman on my car tire- nitrous oxide assisted Kawasaki dragbike and in the 5.60 index class on my small tire Kaw. Prep work is underway in the shop. I knocked out the maintenance on the 750F and started on the nitrous bike. Hopefully I can get it completed and reloaded into the trailer tomorrow night. The small tire Kaw is next up. Oil and filter changes,  new spark plugs, chain lube and adjustments are the basic routines. Other specific items are on the list for each particular  bike. The race isn't always won on the track. Preparation is key.

Have a great meet Frank. Maybe your left hand and the clutch will have you in the 10.2's.

I'm heading for The Salt Friday. Someone's gotta keep an eye on Old Scrambler haha. Taking the current Vette for it's last trip there.  ;D

Jerry. If i wasn't chasing points in this series,  I'd be out there on the salt with you fellas. I truly hope Dennis will continue in competition next year so i can come bug you guys and maybe lend a hand. Good luck this weekend Dennis. I'm confident you'll break some records.

The will to win is easy, the will to prepare to win is harder.

Spoken by a man that understands what it means to be a racer.  There are times when i get tired as heck but know works needs to be done in the shop and have to push myself to open the doors and go inside. Occasionally I'll just sit on the stool and look at the bike until a spark motivates me to start turning wrenches. Its definitely an age thing because when not more than 5 years ago i was chomping at the bit to get off work to do something in the shop. Dang i might be wiser now in the race game but, the numbers arent working in my favor to get stuff done. 😅🤣

What a difference a new clutch pack makes.  I wonder what'll happen when i freshen up the engine. Now we know why my ET dropped over over the past 2 seasons.

Race day tomorrow.  Hopefully this old horse can still trot.

Go to 3 minutes, Frank tangled with the famous "Chopper" The Chopper guy went red in the next round. Timing is everything. Thanks for representing the SOHC bikes well Frank.

Eliminations didn't go well for me. I lost in top sportsman on Saturday due to a missed dial in. I made a bad decision to "dial up" because I thought track conditions were going to get worse and the temperatures would rise. I broke out unfortunately.  The bike ran the same numbers it did in the last time trial. I should've put the 7.78 on the windshield instead of the 7.80. Oh well.  First bike out for me on Sunday was suppose to be my smalk tire Kawasaki.  Pre-race start up reveled a problem that i didn't see coming.  The megphone broke at the collector.  That bike was done for the day. It was then time for street ET on the Honda.  I dialed a 10.40 and was feeling good about making rounds. My opponent dialed a 8.90 so he had to give chase. I left the line but the bike decided to climb a bit. No worries because i just let it ride out and hit the air shifter button to bring it down. I look over a few times to spot my opponent but didn't  see him. As i approached the stripe i made a decision to roll out of the throttle.  Turned into a bad choice. He nipped me at the finish line ending my race day.

Tickets from top sportsman time runs and eliminations. Bike spun off the line on the first pass netting a 7.91 ET.  The other two runs were consistent 7.77-7.78 ET's.
