Hello from Newfoundland
« on: August 23, 2024, 08:49:21 PM »
Hello,

I used to own a 79 and 80 DOHC cb750. The 80 I completely rebuilt the engine with lots of performance goodies.

Currently own a Harley but looking to sell and possibly buy a 1978 cb750k.

Anything I need to be aware of before I get this 78?

Glad to be here.

Cheers

Welcome aboard the forum Dime from NH,  USA

There were 3 different models in 1978. Which model are you looking at? Automatic, K model and Supersport F3?
For the most part they are good.
It really depends upon how they were taken care of and how they were put away if in longterm storage.

It is a K model. The bike was stored well. Gas tank is rust free. Plan to go through the carbs and have a look at the carb boots.  New air filter. Drain oil and drop basepan clean and seal screen. Probably new bars. But other than that ride and maintain.

Appreciate you pointing me to your build. It reminded me of a few things I need to look at if I end up with this 78. Thank you

Then it sounds like a decent bike to get.
What's the mileage on it?
I have a K8 I picked up a couple years ago with 29,000 miles on it, it still has a tight motor.

14k KMs? That's almost new!
If you go thru the carbs, be sure to retain the OEM brass parts and jets. The aftermarket versions are wrong, all of them. They can easily park the bike for running troubles.

14K, like Mark says, that's very low. I hope you went and got it already. Don't hesitate on that one.

As soon as my Harley sells I will definitely grab it. It is a buddy of mine and he is in no rush. That being said if it is gone that is all I can do.
