Hello Old Friends
« on: August 26, 2024, 01:41:46 PM »
I have spent the day on my favorite bike forum. reading some of my post from years past , I really enjoyed the comradery of the comments. My SOHC bikes have been idle for a while, I blame old age and frustration, which is true, except my motivation is not here anymore. My bikes are disassembled and very sad to look at, however occasionally I will ride a buddy's bike, a nice Dyna.  Lungs don't work well anymore. I have,. a 16x12 building full of parts which, I will photo and try to catalog, but what I really want is to maybe ride my bike again and give it to my son when I have thoroughly trashed it. I'm in Concord, NC
So maybe what I was trying to say, is anyone nearby interested in seeing my stash and looking at it in your shop? I just need help making one of my old bikes ride again.
I will post pics, and yes I might be loony !
Found this bike in completely stock condition in Feb. 08. Paid over twice what my new one cost 30 years ago. Am trying to re-create the look of the late 70's Drag Bike styling.More later. 4-2-10 It ain't stock any more and I have no idea what I am trying to create !

Throw up some pictures and give a basic description of what you need help with. I’m not too far to help out get a bike(r) on the road.

Hey George...long time!  I remember your bike when you rode up to Lake Travis on the SOHC Tour in '13!!

Would like to see it back together, I'd take Cal up on his offer.  Good luck

I guess what I'm trying to do is salvage what was not very long ago a great running bike. Honestly, I parked it in 2020 after a small electrical non fire, just melted. And I let it sit and sit, I hated to look at it so I tarped it and it sat some more! Thankfully it was never stored outside. It would be great to see it running.
I have a shed bursting with parts, and more parts, a blast cabinet, a parts washer(Harbor Freight) ect.... I'm not doing the eBay thing anymore, I hate shipping.

My parts need to be used or at least give them a chance at a new life, I decided not to sell anything, I'm just going to give the parts away, just try to help me get a runner, more pics coming,I do believe I have an assorted collection, mostly SOHC, lots of  brakes, rotors, 41mm CB600 forks, k8 frame, motor, stuff and stuff, PICS COMING !!

calj737 and any of y'all, I would most humbly accept any suggestions and wrenching. I'm getting pics and a video, I just move kinda slow!

Looks like you’ve done some customizations. Did the electrical “non-fire” occur as a result and the current state is a result of attempting to sort that out?

George….I hear you loud and clear. Motivation can sometimes be hard to find. I have a buddy that does a shop day once a week with me, that really makes a difference. Don’t be afraid to post a notice at a local tech school. What you really need is someone else to get enthusiastic about your project and fire you back up. I often find myself finishing something up, just because I know my son and grandson are coming for a visit!

Take some risk and find someone local. A KIJIJI ad offering your experience (and accumulated parts stash) might just get you some solid help? Good luck and best wishes from Canada. John D.

I’m a little far away in Buffalo, but I’m well versed in k8 wiring harness.  Maybe we could organize a weekend work party and produce one finished bike before sunday night.  My sister lives in Hillsborough.  I too am trying to figure who to burden with the bike stuff I’ll never get to.

Looks like you’ve done some customizations. Did the electrical “non-fire” occur as a result and the current state is a result of attempting to sort that out?
The batt tender failed, AGM batt swole up and burst, Iwas trying to sort it, I have a new harness, but controls are not stock, LED headlight, no room in the bucket, probably should put it back stock and go from there?

Not required. Since you’ve changed a few things, a simple rewire might actually be easiest

I believe you have something there, why not just do rudimentary wiring to spark up the motor and then make sure it's charging and worry about lighting later? I think I can at least do that!
