CB 500 -72 Side cover brackets
« on: August 26, 2024, 04:38:00 AM »
I recently picked up a 1972 CB 500 that has some quirky modifications. One thing that stands out is that the previous owner didn't have a side cover on the left side (from the rider's perspective). The right side still has the brackets for the cover, but the left side is completely clean—no brackets, nothing. You can see what I mean in the picture below.

Since I don't have a left side cover to test with, I wanted to ask if the left side should have the same brackets in the frame as the right side. Would it be possible to put a cover back on with some zip ties or are there no suitable holes in bracket, what do you think?

Thanks in advance for any insights you can share!

There should be mounting brackets. Someone must have removed them.

The upper rear mount is the same on both sides but the other two are positioned differently. I can't see how you could wire a cover on, I think you'd need to fabricate new mount brackets and weld them on.

Thanks. Looks like it won't be possible.

Consider trying to find someone with a trash frame, then maybe they could cut the brackets off it and you could weld them on?  Bobco is a member here and appears like he is parting out a CB500, I'd send him a message...
