This bike was near the ocean and did get corroded.

Looks better than I imagined after your description...

thanks Stev-o.
I'm more ashamed at myself for making the 'friendly deal' with the dishonorable man.
I told him I would get his Kawasaki running excellent, and I didn't stop until I did.

I plan on doing the same on this Suzuki and I also have a freshly restored-finish clutch side cover to install on it. I'm going to keep on going on this one until the bike looks good and runs Good.
I've installed a pair of new Shinko 712 tires and the bike is registered(titled)in my name  :)
The tank, left cover and tailpiece look nice;I plan to restore the damaged right plastic silver cover, then sand/prime and paint both the front fender and right cover.
I'm going with a Duplicolor factory GM paint can(lacquer)which is bright silver(metallic also)and I'll spray the parts w/ 2K clear when finished to tone it down to try to match the factory paint which is not faded hardly at all.

That's a way better starting point than a bunch of the bikes we've resurrected. It will come out great. 8)

Thanks  8)

I ordered a complete Vesrah gasket set and good set of made in Japan fork seals/wipers for 1/2 price of standard from an online company I wasn't familiar with back in early Oct. when I first took possession of this bike.
I didn't know it was shipping by a Ship  :o  :D from somewhere overseas.
They have done well with updating the tracking;it's finally off the ship, through Customs now and heading my way.
I want to get the 'fresh' used exhaust system I've been cleaning up,clean carbs and the rest of the stuff done to it and start riding it.

I plan $ on getting a pair of either Wiseco 75mm 2) pistons from someone who may have 2) NOS #K1168(oops,the #K1168 are not correct)single pistons;or another pair of cast 75mm similar matching dome pistons that are meant for a GS1000 big bore kit somewhere.
I am going to do my best to match the design of the stock piston domes.

I see APE doesn't list the 75mm pistons for the 8-valve GS anymore so would be a lot easier to go the 73,5mm route.
They may be able to help you though, they have treated me very well in the past, pistons, main bearing studs for a 750 Kawasaki they didn't actually know they were making etc. etc.

83/84 Kawasaki GPz 1100 Wisecos are 75mm and 18mm pin. Maybe they are an option?

The exhausts(had lots of rust)are still a 'work in progress',along with the right sidecover.
The bike came to me w/ very deep gouges in the R. side cover and clutch cover;possibly a heavy lock? or the guy parked next to a very big rock?  The left side cover is excellent.

I have some Blue Away and some Mother's Mag and Aluminum polish plus some #0000 fine steel wool for the exhaust.

I've made a bit of 'on & off' progress in the last 6 months;it's got a small Vetter and on the road.
The engine's top-end is loaded with carbon from the orig. owner riding it around town for 43 years in San Francisco and I plan on pulling the head/jugs and cleaning it all out soon.

I live on the 2nd floor and must climb up and down the stairs every time I need a tool or part upstairs.
I hope I can get myself a shop to put bike's in a comfortable position on a lift plus tools at hand like I had in 2002' as I've been working on the ground since then.
The front wheel was twisted, replaced it w/ a nice straight used one from an 81' GS450S.
I replaced the airbox with an NOS,fresh coils(the bike backfired So Much,it was like gunshots  :D),the CCA modified luggage rack  :),NOS Suzuki stock tapered roller steering bearings(very rusty originals),fresh fork seals w/ Racetech .85KG straight rate springs and synthetic 20wt. fork oil, etc. and this little bike is now dependable for riding.
The majority of replacement factory Suzuki parts for this model are mostly NLA and I needed to find a used petcock with good parts in it to get my original one in good shape.
I also found an OEM Suzuki complete gasket set  :) while asking other dealers who may have NOS parts. I think a set of custom pistons will be in my future as nobody has overbore OEM pistons or rings for this bike.   Still a 'work in progress'.
Can someone here recommend a good piston manufacturer who will make me two pistons to match my original design ?  JE pistons ??

GS1100g is 72mm and two valve, I'm wondering what the wrist pin sizes and compression height look like?  There are a lot of gs1100 overbore sizes but I expect most are for the 4 valve engine.
 Wasn't there a 450 suzukimatic drag bike?

Dynoman has gs1100G overbore pistons for 74mm bores. That's 3mm over. They make a lot of pistons and probably are familiar with the compression heights and pin bores. I'd call there.

Don, a GS1000 is very close but uses a standard skirt piston(70x64.8mm)with a longer stroke.
A GS450 stock piston on the right has a nice dome matched to the 450 chamber(only 9.0:1CR)which I think will yield good power and it's (71×56.6mm)a much shorter stroke engine using a 'slipper' type skirt.

A custom piston which goes up +3mm and use the same exact dome shape will be a good street piston, especially considering the poor quality of pump gasoline here in Ca.
Has anyone you've known dealt with a piston manufacturer(JE ?)to make a set of custom pistons ?

The shiny piston is GS1000;the light color/clean is GS450.
They both have an 18mm piston pin.

We got lucky when I hurt my 565" big block chevy, the next piston size that made it a 567" was an off the shelf part. By the job numbers imprinted on the part, J&E determined the pistons that I got were the third set for that particular motor. I bought it, believing that it was new.
Since then, the sellers shop burned down, another satisfied customer?
Dynoman also sells J&E, Wiseco and DP custom pistons.

WE MAKE CUSTOM PISTONS: If you don't see what you're looking for below, please email us!
Send your make, model, year, plus desired bore size and compression ration, and what you will be doing with the bike (dragrace, roadrace, hot street, sidecar, naturally aspirated or blown, etc). This will help us to design the perfect piston for you.

Oh ok.
I've heard their name mentioned here on the forum before;curious if anyone here has had custom pistons made by them.. are they a distributor for other piston companies(middle-man?)or do they do their own pistons ?

You might call them to find out, but I'd guess both. They have instructions on how to make a mold of your combustion chamber and offer under dome piston milling to reduce weight. DP = Dynoman
