Converting to 530 chain and sprockets from 630
« on: August 31, 2024, 05:54:27 PM »
Ok so I am trying to make sense of all the available parts I am seeing online.

I know the 78k had the 630 chain.

Is it as simple as ordering the 530 chain and sprockets for a 76 and earlier?

I feel like I am missing something along the line.

Appreciate any help. Thank you

I converted from 630 to 530 chain and sprockets, using JTF-338 (17)  and JTR-284 (48).

The JTF338 has a shoulder on one side, I initially installed with shoulder out, but after installing chain, it was rubbing the engine case.

I then reversed the front sprocket with shoulder inside, no more chain rub.

104 links if I recall correctly.

Two questions. Was the 17 tooth too buzzy at highway speeds? Do you have a part number for the 18 tooth?

Thank you

Perfect. Thank you. I found a Canadian supplier and it will cost a little over $200 to do the conversion. Not bad at all seeing as a belt for my old Harley is $400 alone. Very much looking forward to working on these Hondas.
