Early Frankenbike?
« on: September 21, 2024, 08:44:59 PM »
Hey fellas. Little oddity advertised locally and is interesting. By the Vin and Engine looks like maybe earlier frame with mid engine (750e- 201----)? obviously an earlier start but missing lots of pieces.
Am I right in thinking its a frankenbike?

No keys or title of course. They arent asking much

Story:

Wife here, the story I have on the bike is my girlfriends dad came back from "the war" and bought himself this bike to help with his sense of freedom and to cope with everything. My husband's brothers from another dad all assured me I had to be wrong and placed the year tag on it thats in the ad. I took guardianship of the bike when her dad got rough with alzhimers and when he passed. Ad says its a 79, which of course its not.

Yeah, totally...why would you think its anything but a frankenbike?  That does not necessarily mean bad, imo.  Just realize it's not gonna ever sell for K0 money until it's de-frankened.  I see lots of good parts that could really help de-franken the frankenbikes you already have lol  Or put it together in any way you can and enjoy.  I just always figure, if its good enough for me, somebody else may enjoy it just as much.
If it works good, it looks good...

Definitely a frankenbike, K0 die cast frame, K2 motor and dash(maybe front end because of a crash??? and motor was damaged???) and other customized bits. Definitely fixable if you have the parts. So what are you going to do with it? Does it have the previous owner registration?
With a previous owner registration and bill of sale, along with a VIN check by a police officer, I could register it here in NH. Can you do that where you are?

I have a K0 die cast motor setting under the bench that'll get a home someday.

It has a 72 engine, oil tank, instruments, light panel.
Looks like a 72 with a 70 frame.

This one in the neighboring town would be a little closer to a 70!

I see a lot of 72's with 71 engines. I have two myself. That bike has a lot of custom parts on it. The air filters, taillight, backrest and seat jump out but there is a lot that's right with it too.
The no title sucks. I'm told in Illinois a surviving family member can get a title pretty easy with a death certificate and the numbers off of the bike. May be different where you are.
