Fork oil disappearance
« on: September 11, 2024, 10:52:30 AM »
I’m changing my fork oil, after too long.

The old stuff, as expected is a milky reddish/grey colour. What was not expected is the volume; I put in 230 mls, but only about 170 has come out. There has been no leaks.

Is this normal? I can’t remember from last time.

If its a total stripdown its 330 if only a drain through small bolt 170

*&%!
Thanks Brian, I had forgotten that distinction. I guess the first 230mls will just help wash out the fork  :)

It might also 'pump up' and [suddenly] greatly increase the down-force needed! That happened once in my shop when i sent the 'new kid' out to change the fork oil in a bike: he drained and then filled the whole amount (I think it was a Suzy 380 triple?). Afterward the forks would only compress about 1 inch!
