CB750K1 Oil Pan
« on: September 10, 2024, 04:49:45 AM »
Replaced a cracked oil pan with one on Ebay. Took a bad leak to a minor leak but a leak just the same. The pan was replaced with a similar pan. These pans both have a triangular tab next to the drain plug. The tab seems to hit up against the engine block and have no particular purpose. Part number shows 11210300050(tab) for motors after 1007414. Mine is 1107769.
Motors before that use 11210300040. No tab on those.
Seems to me that tab could cause the pan to crack as its tighten against the block.
I priced the earlier pans and its about 3 times the price.
Hesitant to tighten anymore in fear of cracking this pan. Using a gasket with no Hondabond or other sealant.
Could use some direction. Thanks!

The “fin” is a retainer for what’s above. I always use a small amount of gasket cement on both side of that gasket……

The drain bolt boss isn’t particularly strong. Make sure you have a decent crush washer and don’t reef on the drain bolt. It’s a candidate for torque wrench use IMHO.
Not too tight, certainly
Not too loose, certainly.
I busted one in my youth, the weld repair didn’t take.

The round plug, I believe, is to facilitate shift fork placement during engine assembly. I have never seen one out, theres no oring sized for it that I’m aware of.
