Kreemed gas tank
« on: September 14, 2024, 05:54:06 PM »
20 years ago I kreemed one of my 750 gas tanks. There was only surface rust, some discoloration, but no holes.  Probably overkill at the time.  Took a long time with prep.  To date has not peeled or flaked.  HOWEVER, I am thinking of repainting with a simple color, not a flake.  I think I am pushing the envelope regarding the integrity of the liner.  Have researched on line and there are a multitude of suggestions to remove and they usually contradict one another.  Years ago, people used radiator shops to boil it out.  Of course there goes the paint, but that isn’t an issue.  Now told, most don’t do it anymore.  Sorry for the long post, but any suggestions?

Imho, if the liner hasn't lifted by now it's probably not going to.
However, if you want to remove it and you're not worried about the paint pretty much anything goes.
Since it's hard to find MEK any more your best bet would probably be filling it with acetone for a week or so to melt the Kreem.

I'll second acetone, I've used it to clean out a Kreemed tank.
