Finally got the TAG!
« on: March 19, 2007, 07:50:25 PM »
I headed down to the tag office today for the 4th time.  In the last chapter the tag office faxed a form I had to have the local precinct fill out saying that they had looked up the bike and it was not listed as stolen - then mail to them.  I did this and days turned to weeks and my temp tag expired so I finally drove down to the tag office in downtown Atlanta.  The 1st window lady looks at my collection of papers and hears my story and sends me to the 2 window - so far so good.  This 2nd window lady looks at it all and calls her Supervisor.  The Supervisor sends me back to the 1st window to ask for a different Supervisor.  The 2nd Supervisor comes out very annoyed looks at my stuff & goes away.  She then comes back and says they sent a certified letter to the last register owner but he's dead now and could not fill out the necessary form.  I said well then I guess he has no interest in the bike any more.  I then show her the copy of the form I had the Police fill out in hopes that will help.  She says where's the original -I say I mailed it to you all.  She says why - luckily I had the cover sheet from the original fax which said to please mail it to them.  She takes everyhting I have asked me to go sit down and wait.  I wait about 1/2 hour before a 3rd Supervisor calls me up and gives me a print out sheet she has written "OK" and signed cross the bottom and sends me back to the 2nd window.  I go there and the lady looks at my paper work and asks where the original is of the form the Police filled out.  I show her the cover sheet and say I sent it in.  She calls a 4th Supervisor who looks at everything I have then takes my check hands me a plate.  She then leans over close to the hole in the glass and says "don't ever sell this bike".  I grab the plate and do a running dance thing holding the tag above my head as I bolted out the door.

Imagine, how would all those people make a living without bureaucracy?

 :D

Glad it all worked out okay.

My favorite Dept of Motor Vehicle experiance was the time I tried to buy a motorcycle from a deceased person. The affadavitts, power of attorney, relatives proclamation, morgue report etc official route was crazy but I had the title in hand (in deceased dude's name) went and told the DMV teller there I want to expediate this. She looked at the title, papers, forms and instructions (all unfilled) leaned foward and whispered "Just go out into the parking lot and have him sign the back of the title"

I have a theory. People in bureaucratic positions are "Jobsworths", meaning that under the terms or their (usually union) employment they have specific job descriptions. If they are confronted with a situation which falls outside their job description, or which (heaven forbid!!) requires that they use some initiative and common sense, they will resort to the stock response:

"That's more than my job's worth to solve".

So they then have to scurry off to whoever is next up the chain of command to get a resolution to the situation. Meanwhile the customer (us) has to stand around whistling Dixie.

The biggest pity is that these people do not understand that they are in 'customer service' to exactly the same extent as the person who serves them in the gag and puke or the local Wal Mart.

In my experience it is all about filling in time until retirement and pension.....

Opinionated GHOF out.
