1975 CB750K picked up last week in Sprue Pine North Carolina, yes it is exactly in the middle of no where and not even shown on the road atlas.  Facebook market place find, rough, lots of rust, but clear title, showing 22k on the clock, missing some stuff, "BUT" 145 to 150 across all four jugs and when the oil was drained it was blacker than my X Wife's soul but debris and metal free.  All electrics are up and working even down to dash lights, and without touching the rusty points there was fire to the plugs. I going to do a carb bank in the next week or so and after some routine valve and cam chain maintenance, I think it may run, at least I darn sure hope so......

   It's just broken in, give a good clean up and you'll be ready to go... looks like a great buy, hows the tank.

Tank is nearly perfect inside, I don't think I will need Caswell on this one.  I pulled the carbs down last evening, no main jets, no pilot jets, no main jet holders, someone must have been thinking a total re boot, thank goodness for a parts cache.  Seller says the bike came from a guy who was going to turn into a cafe racer and just lost interest, alleged to have run well before he walked away from the project and left it sitting for years.   Don't they all say that though.  I have an old T shirt somewhere that says "Ran when Parked", I need to pull it out and wear it on the buying excursions..

Well, nice find! You have the skills to bring it up to a very nice bike again. You have your work cut out for you. I've been to Spruce Pine several times. I worked in Newland and lived in Boone for first job after college. Pretty country that sees a fair amount of snow, or used to...

Sometimes you know when someone upstairs is looking out for you.  When I bought the bike I gave the seller a deposit and told him I would be down this past Wednesday to pick it up, about a 425 mile trip one way.  The long range weather forecast called for thunderstorms and rain for that time frame so I elected to go down over the weekend spending the night on Saturday and picking the bike up Sunday which worked out perfect except for heavy heavy traffic on Int. 81 resulting in about a two hour delay getting home, the reason I try not to travel on weekends anymore.  Looking at the effects of this latest hurricane which hit western North Carolina on Wednesday was devastating. That area received over two feet of rain, and of course the entire region was impacted.  I saw a picture of Interstate 40, the route I took to get to the sellers home, and it was completely under water. Beautiful country down there and my sincere prayers for a speedy recovery go out to people who have lost everything from this horrific storm.

Asheville NC is only accessible by helicopter or plane, I40 washed out E bound roadway at one spot, I 26 into Asheville from Johnson City and TriCities area of NE TN had bridge submerged then washed out. All roads in Morristown TN area south of Nolichucky River are closed any bridges in area for fear of dam failure. Hospital in Erwin flooded and people had to be evacuated by helicopter off the roof because the water around building was roiling too bad for rescue. Lots of bridges washed out and or underwater and unsafe to cross. It is awful. Only way to reach SC or further East in NC is to take 77 south off of 81 in VA It is really bad. Blue Ridge Parkway is closed Western NC in mountains all but inaccessible die to floodwaters

It runs, pretty decent for the condition.  I have  the carb bank somewhat fat since it came off my old chopper with straight pipes, but it starts easy, smoked on initial start up but is clearing the more it runs.  This poor bike has seen a lot of time in the open elements and with a side of neglect thrown in for good measure. Front axle was rusted into the inner sleeve, and the wheel bearings are garbage. The points advance was rusted solid, the OEM pipes have more holes than a mole farm.  I am pulling them in the next couple of days to see if they are even worth trying to patch the mufflers, I probably will and include them in the sale with what even rusted out 41's are bringing now days.  I have a couple of good aftermarket header and pipe systems I can install in their place.  The clutch is sticking along with the rear brakes, oh well nothing like a good challenge to keep the juices flowing. The front fender is pretty well banged up beyond repair so I ordered the one pictured off of E bay.  It was cheap, and yes it came with an eagle ornament. I know the eagle may cause some jealousy among you fellows, so I will probably remove it and patch the holes with some chrome flat top screws. I really don't want to cause any trouble on the site.......

You did well to get that bike when you did;was it sitting outside and required you to push it out of the weeds ?
I was in Spruce Pine back in 05',spent the day at their Walmart;while I was there I took a walk down the good,dirt road on the right for some exersize.
I like the front fender as is,with the streamlined bird;gives it character,imo.

How do you all like my new "Bar Hopper".  I have been loosing sleep at night wondering about the overall condition of this super rusty project machine.  I knew it ran ok on the lift but you never know the full condition of any bike until you at least go around the block.  I pulled the clutch and the disc were all within spec but the metal plates were super crusty.  Cleaned everything, hit the discs with some white lithium grease and after assembly the lever pull felt good.  This morning I made up my mind I was going to check the overall condition before spending any more money.  I got up early and pulled the rear wheel from my personal bike and put it on the project.  I also bolted the set of short headers you see in the photos on to have some type of exhaust.  (I have a pristine Mac 4 into 2 system coming shortly that I scored off of FB at a real good price.  No way OEM pipes will be going back on this one, the set that came on it are just too far gone to even try to patch and believe me, even the aftermarket Mac systems are bringing top dollar.)  Hooked the temporary gas bottle up and up the street we went.  The bike runs great and shifts through all the gears perfectly, so I will get out the big arse lipstick tube for the pig and finish bringing it back.  The poor thing deserves it.  Now I have to find something else to worry about at night, that is never a problem.............

i like the eagle too !  your bike , your choice .    looks like a good project to start on .  have seen some a helluva lot worse .

It is like time has slowed down on this one, also the plate has been rather full lately with pre winter duties around the homestead.  It did not help that the Wife and I both said "What the H^%l" and decided to go out of town for a weekend get away.  We really enjoyed the trip and the weather was perfect in Williamsburg Virginia, but damn, what is up with the price of hotel rooms now.  For one night in a decent place, I could have made a down payment on a condo.   

I have got the rear wheel done, it was on the verge of being maybe too far gone with a lot of rust but cleaned up well enough for a five to ten foot inspection.  It is true and balanced with all new wheel bearings to make sure.  A top of the "cheap" line Duro tire is mounted also.  I have cleaned up the head pipes and the hole riddled mufflers have made their way to metal pile at the landfill with the exception of the guards which were in pretty good shape, another item for that imaginary motorcycle flea market I will set up at one day in the far future.  The mufflers are a Mac set that I found on E bay with excellent chrome.  They mount with the original headers and can be a pain to get bolted up, but look pretty decent and have a great throaty sound.  Going to start laying frame and motor paint in the next week or so. I have no idea how I got anything done when I was working, even retired there is never enough time in the day......
