500/4 Front Brake Master Cylinder - All the same?
« on: September 30, 2024, 01:55:42 AM »
Could someone tell me if all years of CB500 used the same front m/c? I need an overhaul kit but don't know the year of manufacture of the m/c as it's from a donor bike. Thanks

Better to buy the repop master from Dave Silver, not much dearer than a kit and the kits can be a swine to fit and bleed

I've just refurbed a couple. Have you taken yours apart yet? The circlip is difficult to remove and I had to modify clip tool. In some cases the circlip is too corroded and breaks and then just about impossible to pull apart. But yes the kits are all basically the same.
To make them look OK I bought some large dia heat shrink for the reservoir and painted the lower half.

Thanks Guys, useful info. The circlip does look pretty corroded but will give the tear-down a go, and the David Silver option as plan-b.

+3 for the DSS repop. Order the better looking cap when ordering. Not much extra. It has a stock look.

There are noticeable differences. eg: reservoir on the stock M/C protrudes forwards, the repro comes back over the bars. There is ribbing on the outside. Use your original cap if it's good.
